Attaching a custom shift boot?

I am using a Grand Am shifter in my GTZ. This allowed me to use a thread-on style shift knob. Additionally, I'd like to get rid of the rubber shift boot and go another route. I've seen many go the custom route, but I'm curious how to go about attaching the bottom of the boot to the console. Any info/pics would be great!!

Most custom/modified shifter boots attach from the bottom, unlike the stock ones that attach like a grommet.

There is a plastic ring that screws in from the bottom to capture the rubber boot. I just used that to capture the leather boot. Just cut 4 slits in it and rock & roll.
