I have an issue with my 1991 beretta 5 speed speedometer. As its winter and salty on the roads it would be ideal to test this inside my garage. Heard mixed reviews of that happens when you jack a car up and run it up to speed.

Is this safe for the trans/axles? I know it can be lifted securely and should not fall off.

Putting it up equally on both sides up front on stands and jacking both control arms up to bring equally parallel with the axles will take most of the stress out. Just like a dynamometer, do NOT use the brakes unless you absolutely have to.

that sounds ideal, if the axles are not hanging it shouldn't hurt it any more than driving it?

I am not in the mood to change axles or break anything.

yes just updated that thread fixed it saturday!

This is how I test my auto trans when I get them built... It's the best way to check that all gears will shift before driving out of the garage. And yeah once done just pop it into neutral and let the wheels slow down on their own...

Thanks for the responses once I get my coolant pipe fixed up I will try testing this !
