I know BMW and Mercedes use it on some models, but??

I live in a condo now, love the place, great view, but can't do much to the car.

Or do I just go to a "Quickie Oil Change Place" and give them $20 to use my oil and filter?

Quad is parked until I get the oil changed. It's been 2900 miles.

Never used one and don't know anything about them. The quickie places have good oil, just not good filters(that is were they get you).

I have the Mobil 1 (5w30) and the Mobil 1 filter.

$20 and there ya go?

Or pay $89.00 for their synthetic oil change.

Then they proceed to inform me that my car is unsafe to drive. Needs struts, shocks and Lord knows what else, but they can do it all in about an hour. $989.00!

Offered the dude $20 for 10 minutes work? Hell a Quad is not a tough job.

Said, "too many cameras and I would get fired". WOW!!

There used to be a "Rent-A-Bay" place here in town but that would be too good to be true in my situation about now.

I got screwed over by that to, go in for an oil change and they said my car was unsafe to drive due to something I can't remember I'm sure they were hoping I would pay them to fix it. I had to have it towed its a bunch of bs. That's why I never go to shops period.

Go to the back corner of a Wal-Mart equivalent up in Canada... Hell I've also done an oil change in the parking lot of an advance auto when I was going cross country and changed a wheel bearing in a Autozone parking lot when I was up in NH drag racing...

Well Jon, I no longer have a jack, drain pan or a place to get rid of the old oil (although I could probably use it in the KIA it's still rather clear.)

But I am liking the idea. Grab a cheap jack and drain pan. Pick a parking lot, LOL!

This Condo living is about getting used to stuff.

Fabulous view from the 21st floor. Car is incredibly safe and secure in "The Vault" we call our temperature controlled underground parking. The spot I have is actually about 25 X 15.

Going to look into getting off my arse and doing it somewhere!!

Most parts houses have oil disposal tanks on site, FREE of charge. I know O'Reilly Auto Parts does.

You should be fine using a topsider to change the oil. It's amazing how little they leave in the pain!

I never used one but since sediment settles to the bottom, I would speculate that you are not getting a lot of gunk out of the engine. Also some drain plugs have magnets to catch metal particles and if you are not taking that out, it doesn't get wiped off. You could look at your local Craigslist under services and see if you find a reputable guy who would like to make a couple bucks in his garage.
I know you didn't ask but I think changing synthetic at 2900 miles is over kill unless you drive a lot of short hops where the engine doesn't get hot for very long. 3k oil changes were needed when engines had carburetors and ran dirty putting a lot of carbon in the oil.

I never knew that changing oil was so difficult. I figured anyone would want to change the oil for money.

If u r using mobile 1, u r good for 1 year of 12 000 miles.
I change the oil once a year.

I actually tried the craigslist route. Offered $30. No replies! Kind of surprised me.

At 3000 miles it's coming out. This is a Quad and they don't like heat or dirty oil, and even with Mobil 1 these ones are not all that expensive. (Thank You Target for going out of business in Canada and everything was 70% off!!) I have enough supply for the next 5 oil changes.

I overheated this puppy a couple of times with the fan/rad issue and I'm not pushing my luck, (which has been incredibly bad it seems in the last couple years).

And yes it does get its share of short-ish trips and sits for months at a time without moving.

Is the rad fan issue resolved?

Pauly there is an old thread on this.

I was up north when the fan let go, took out the rad, both hoses and made a huge mess.

$600 later a new rad was forced upon me along with all new hoses, thermostat and such, and they couldn't find a fan assembly.

Now has a '96 fan.

Car runs perfect, and I am pleased it didn't puke the head gasket.

At 73,000 original miles, and on the original clutch I am not complaining!

The fact the car had the head gasket replaced under warranty back in 1992 with the graphite replacement Dr. Oldsmobile HP piece probably has saved this damn thing.

That is when Jim had the 2* cam gears installed as well.

It will make it to B'Fest, along with the Molson beer and the Oreos.
