Hey guys, I have a 88' Beretta with a rebuilt 3.1 swapped in and this kid at school keeps talking how quick his 96' Saturn SL 1.9L is and he wanted to race. I don't intend on racing him anytime soon, but I was just wondering how my Beretta would fair in a race against his car? My Beretta has a rebuilt 3.1L with intake, muffler, better spark plugs, wires, like new Firehawk tires, and a 3spd auto. He has a totally stock 1.9L 5spd Saturn SL. I know the standard tranny would probably give him a jump, but like I said, I was just wondering so that I would know ahead of time if something did happen. Thanks for any info.

ive never seen a stock saturn 1.9l race anything so I have no clue

What sort of a race?  1/4 mile would probably be close.  If you're just racing stoplights and you know how to drive your car you'll jump on him bad.

I'll agree with Doug.  If it is the 8 valve engine you shouldn't have much problem after he gets out of first gear.

My friend had one and it would barely pull 70-80 MPH up hills on the interstate in 5th with 3 people in it.  Pretty sad.  I thought there was something wrong with it the first time it did that to me while driving...  I kept pushing down on the throttle and realized it wasn't speeding up...    I had NEVER experienced that.  Got pretty good mileage though.

lol, ya, he's always talking about how quick it is. He even told me and a friend the other day that he had it at 120 without pushing it when him and his cousin were driving it down our road. I would figure his speed limiter would prevent that kinda mph if the car could even make it there. Plus my brother has owned nothing but 4 cylinders like his and stock they cant pull much after 70-75 (from my experiences) This kid is pretty dumb tho, now he's afraid he'll lose (although he obviously hasn't admitted it) i can tell tho because now he wants to get a firebird or trans am. He's just one of those people who always talk smack, but never wanna back it up.

SL2 depending if he can drive
since your auto if its SL2 hes probably gonna pull on you
see if he has the DOHC motor or not

i killed the SOHC saturn with my 2.8 auto, and just beat a DOHC with a 3.1 5-speed - both of those saturns were 5-speeds

nice man. im positive that he has the sohc engine. have you done anything to your beretta (engine mods)?
