These cars must just love to run!


So last month i was driving to lunch, parked and took the keys out of the ignition and as im stepping out of the car something wasn't right and froze...i looked down to ensure my keys were in my hand because i heard the lovely sound of the little V6 that could..

I thought, wow this is a first lol So i looked at the ignition cylinder thinking maybe it was still in "RUN" and the key somehow came out....but no i had removed it like normal....turning the ignition to "OFF" then pulling the key's out......but it wasn't "OFF"   im beyond myself here as i put the key back in and start turning...nothing, you could even feel the "click" as it moves to "ACC"....nothing cars still running great haha...even the "START" felt normal with the pressure and such....no starter but still running lol

So I drive back to the shop and yank the negative cable till i could start investigating which after a little snooping around the column and turning of the key revealed the little rod connected to the big switch wasnt working  

Well this is cool i thought because my tilt had broke a couple weeks before that and i had popsicle sticks jammed in the top to hold it at the lowest setting (just picture it lol...without those sticks the damn wheel would jump up and down while driving....not cool  


So i grab the trusty chiltons. and rip the column out. all is well untill i start to read that a "special tool" is required to remove the pivot pin bolts on the wheel and to take the car to a dealer because the ignition lock/tilt replacement is too much for the home mechanic ...are they fawkin serious? If someone can remove the steering column out of a car im sure they can use that tool and finish taking it apart hahahahah not me though i made a little redneck slide hammer and whammo lol

Now i get to try end figure out how the tilt works since it came out in a million pieces lol i got it going though and THANK GOD for junk yards..

Now ya know what the worst part is? i bought a new ignition cylinder thinking that was it but it was the actual gear plate that attaches to the rod itself it broke in half...and my local GM stealership wanted $70 for it   yaaaaaaah right local junk yard had one for $5

my seat belt locked all the way up, so i had to go to a junk yard and get a new one. not too hard but i didnt know i would need a pair of pliers to turn the reset button on the bottom. so we had to borrow a set from some guy the was walking around in the junk yard too. so i get home and replace it and then i fix the passenger side belt too. i had been locked all the way out for about a year and it turned out the a piece of plastic was stuck in it, haha my husband has had to deal with that seat belt being all the way out for over a year.

My key got stuck inside once with it still running. I took it to a lock shop. I pulled the injector fuse to shut it off, lucky for me I could still turn the key and start it (checked it with a half turn to be sure it would work before the fuse was pulled, the flywheel was never hit). I kept it with the key still stuck, in the glove box just to show off(ha,ha). Then just like you, the rods broke and I had that fixed also. Just to keep the key from getting stuck again I used carb cleaner and Slick 50 One Lube just this year(don't ever use WD40 for this).
