Custom engraved 3400 UIM for turbo 3400

Post by woody90gtz »

Made another custom UIM for Geoff. I did mine in 2010 and made it look good with some paint. Geoff went the next level and had his professionally powder coated after I cut it. Here's the video if you're interested.

That is awesome -caught a glimpse of it but hadn't posted yet... Using the Buick GN(X) "boosted-6" is borderline blasphemous, but it came out too nice for me to criticize! I have intentions of making a decal for the L36/L67 3800 hybrid in my GTU, doing a red "L3" and a black "7" with the arrowed "boosted-6" split half red/half black. "L367". The GTU is more of a 'decal car' than an 'emblem car', if that makes any sense, but the paint is so bad now I'm not at that stage anyway. And I still haven't touched the F40 in it yet either. :(

Looks like the secondary color in the "6" matches the color of Geoff's turbo? How well does the ECM deal with varying temperatures from running the MAF after the turbo compressor? I had hesitations over the layout, but if it works good, that is fantastic and opens a few options for some of us...

Do whatever with you want with emblems IMO. I mean, I had a fake "SS" and I'm making a new "T56" decal in the Z26 style soon...bad paint or not.

Yep. I am too far away from 'stock' on most of my vehicles to ever gain the title of 'purist'. One of the reasons I still visit the Forum here is the community itself -the info is great to have, and fine to share, but the actual people on this Board are (overall -there is always a rotten apple in the bunch) just a step better than most other forums...

I HATE the Third Gen F-Body forums -all swagger and attitude, one-upmanship running rampant and snobbery that could curl the toes of a fairytale princess... I recall reading a post by someone there who had done a T56 swap (why I was reading the post) into a third-gen, Firebird IIRC, and had taken it to a local car show... They openly bragged about lying to an older gent who was confused about the 6-speed and however they had re-badged the car, claiming it to be 'factory', and mocked the guy for not knowing any better. Other forum members just chimed-in and laughed about it too. Brats.

Yeah the Beretta group is tight. I think it's partly the group itself, but also the smaller size of the group kinda naturally brings the members closer. My NastyZ28 group has some really good dudes that I know, but it's nowhere near as close as Bnet.

The NICO (Nissan/Infinity) forum seemed decent back when I had checked it out years ago relating to my 300ZX/VH45DE project, but I just didn't get that involved, and stayed away from all the 240SX/KA-series discussions that A) -didn't relate to me and, B) -I suspected would attract more of the younger/more boastful ('boostful'?) members trying to prove something. Of course the Gearhead EFI forum you had referred me to quite some time ago seemed like a good group too, I just haven't gotten enough into tuning to contribute or to even really engage much beyond some talk regarding my 'old' Camaro's ported CFI setup... I am all for chatting with good people with common interests, but if I don't know what I am talking about, I like to stay off the keyboard and just read (so annoying when someone asks a specific question, and gets several answers of, "Well, I don't know, but I wanted to comment anyway with some random guesses or just to let you know that I don't know..." )...

Okay, back on-topic, before I get another nasty-gram from one of those 'bad apples' I mentioned above! "Keep the off-topic chit-chat down, can't you tell nobody posts much of anything here anymore!?" :o

The UIM looks amazingly clean. Did you sand-down more of the raw casting texture than was necessary for the engraving, or does the finish powder-coating just cover it that well? -Sorry, I haven't watched the video yet, I have a love(to)/hate relationship with you-tube, but it is on my list... :pardon:
