Why do the old 5.0 stangs hold their value?

Just curious why this is. Production numbers weren't low. The cars are fast but so are many others.
We're talking 4 grand for one here where I live.
It's an 89 with 71k but still, that's a lot for a ford.
Why do the old 5.0 stangs hold their value?

well for that one its cause the mileage...
but mostly hold their value for their huge aftermarket...
this in turn makes them very popular for gearheads...
and helps keep them on the drag strips....

Can't say I dig them. I don't even
like the classics. Owned two ford
trucks in the past and each were
totally unreliable. May have something
to do with my distaste for Ford in
general.

thats a steal for that car if its in average condition for those miles. The only reason it isnt more than that is because its winter and he says need to sell ASAP. Normally that car is easily worth $4000.

itd be close in the end.....the stang would probably get the jump but the fbody would pull hard on it on the top end...

Even though I love third-gen camaro's and the firebird is its brother I would vote for the mustang over the firebird in this case. Probably better taken care of and will last longer.

Chevy-Ford-Dodge, a car is only as good as it's maintainance record, you don't take care of a car, it won't take care of you, you take care of it..........
EXAMPLE:
My dad bought a 1971 F-250 back in Oct 1970, changed the oil every 1500 miles, something broke, it got fixed, I bought it in 1985 with 224k on it, and junked it in 1996 with over 390k, moral: keep a stringent maintainance practice, and it will last you a long, long time, the reason it got junked, was a Chevy 1500 ran a light, and totalled both trucks

Im very surprised they dont want more than that, alot of the 80's and early 90's muscle cars are starting to go up in value a bit, it wasnt too long ago you could pick those cars up for dirt cheap.

I dont know My pops used to have an manual LX 5.0 mustang with the optional 3.08 rear and with just a k&n drop in and the spare tire taken out the back he ran 14.3, and I think even the 350 Iroc-z's and formula firebirds (could be wrong.)are like 15 second cars out of the box and the 305's were even slower.

In the first ad, the guy was asking 4k
but later that day changed his price
to $3500. I agree that being a 25th
makes this one attractive. He'll
prolly sell it if he hasn't already.
The fBird on the other hand, is
under the care of a real donut!
He does not have the original rims
and when asked what would happen
if the eagles sell, his response was
that the car is going down on it's
rotors! swear to god - I'll forward
you the email if you're having trouble
believing this. He knows he is not getting
anything near his asking price. Not
only that but I would not want that
dude putting the engine back. Since
it is out, id buy it as is and do some rebuilding.
moral is you get what you pay for, and
under those circumstances you don't
know what you're getting.
regarding your second post - the stang
might beat out the fb in the 1/4
but i'll bet that bird would out run
the pony long before the mile was up
