idle rough/knocking?

PERTAINS TO: 95 Beretta 2.2
My Beretta has a code 35 for IAC BUT replacing didn't work. Also replaced plugs, fuel filter, EGR, plug wires, coolant temp. sensor, 02 sensor, throttle position sensor, fuel pressure regulator, air intake sensor, probably more. (also cleaned throttle plate and inside of IAC bracket) Code still on although less frequent, (yes I tried erasing code)
Symptoms: check engine light on after idling to operating temp, while under load, and when driving less than 35-40 mph. Light goes away if you shut off car then turn on again. Of more concern is that it has what my friend describes as lower end knock sound, but the noise is only apparent at idle. Sounds great when driving.
Should I keep investing money trying to fix, or just drive and junk? Everybody says replace coil packs, but if it was coil packs, wouldn't the problem be more apparent on rainy days?
