Yeah, but you have a LOT more torque to even things out. Plus, he's trying to stay light weight on the wheels/tires (SO3's are HEAVY) to help acceleration. Soooooo.....
And like I said...turns are not found in gay Iowa (*some* on-ramps....not many).
We are a GREAT state for top speed though

I wish RebelGT would have shed some more light on his experiences, I don't want to speak for him, but I'll say what I know: I believe RebelGT (Steve, right?) had used different rims on the front of his cars at the track, I think they were 15s and they lowered his 1/4 times... but I'm not sure exactly how that relates to the subject at hand.
However I can understand why a 15" rim would help out, first of all you've got less rubber on the ground which means you've got more pressure on less space which means you gain traction. Not only do you gain traction, but you'll carry an inch less of rim around. Maybe Reb can back me up on that one, as he knows from experience...

In theory, a wider tire does not give you more traction (nor does a narrower tire).
What I'm trying to gain with a taller rim, is the shorter sidewall hieght. Which will add in cornering and stuff. These 14" 70 series tires I have roll over onto the sidewalls in a corner.

I feel that... my Goodyear Ultra-Grip Ice's were 195/xx/14... there were terrible with corners...

what else would you like to know about my "expierances", i've posted everything I know on this board at one point in time or another, most of it goes unnoticed though, heh.

225/50 or 205/55?
My gas mileage seems to be affected by the 225's a little. I used to get like 28-30 mpg with the 205's, now it seems like 22-25mpg with the wider tires. I can go like 150 miles on 1/2 tank to empty (estimated). I drive ALOT so i notice things like this... My car is tuned properly and i keep it well maintained. Driven it 18,000 miles since August 2002...
225/50 or 205/55?
the smaller rim/shorter tire is useful because it has a lower rotational inertia and is able to be turned faster with less power...

225/55 and a 205/50 (16") are the same overall tire height.

heavier wheels have more inertia, lighter wheels have less unsprung mass, and there for can be have a greater centripital acceleration is what i think u'r trying to say.

225/50 or 205/55?
Well I have 205/55 and have gone through many different tires on them. (3 kinds). I actually had better traction with my 195 firestones on 14" ers. (I'm guesing the sidewall twisted some and "absorbed" some energy rather than just forcing all the power directly to the ground right away with a stiff sidewall)
in the 205 width I've had yokohama winters, goodyear eagle gw? (the unidirectional ones) and now Kelly navigator golds.
The first two I could just side step the brake and floor it and smoke them without problem. The navigators don't get traction at all. I'll see how they do when it warms up but I baby the accelerator and they still spin out. I got them thinking a touring tire would give me more miles and not wear as bad as a performance tire, but hell I can't even drive the car normaly wihtout getting wheel spin and burning up the tread. They are wearing fast
I would of gotten 225 if (A, the cheap kumhos where a all season tire  B) the tires that were all season didn't cost ~30 more a tire for that size. (375 bucks for just the 205/55 I got isn't cheap)
BTW I don't know what is "wrong" with my car but it can break the tires free no problem even with other people in the car. I need new lifters and it only ran a 16 sec 1/4 mile stock with Z26 wheels and subwoofer box in the car at ~125,000 miles with no mods. Maybe I have a lot of torque? I'd expect modded cars to be worse off than me...

Wouldn't a 225/50 roll over more beings that your wider than the rim?
