I HAVE A 1988 BERETTA(MANUFACTURED IN 87, HAS 64,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT, ON A 2.8-6 CYL.  HERES THE PROBLEM, WHEN CAR GETS HOT WHEN DRIVING IT WILL JUST START HUMMING WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, IF I LET OFF GAS IT WILL IDLE BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE, ALSO WHEN HOT IT WILL DIE WHEN I COME TO A STOP, THEN IT WILL IDLE BUT WHEN I GO TO PUT IN DRIVE IT STALLS WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE UNTIL IT COOLS OFF, THEN SAME PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN WHEN IT HEATS UP.  ALSO CAR WILL DIE WHEN I HIT PUDDLES BUT WILL RESTART QUICK.  I HAVE REPLACED IDLE AIR CONTROL,FUEL PUMP,FUEL FILTER,CAM,CRANK SENSORS,DID A TUNE UP,REPLACED TCC SOLENOID BECAUSE TRANS WAS LOCKING UP IN HIGH GEAR WHEN COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY.  IS THERE SOMETHING IM MISSING?? CAN ANYONE HELP??  ALL SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.  COULD IT BE A SENSOR OR COMPUTER OR JUST MAYBE A CODE NEEDS TO BE RESET??  HOW CAN THE CODES AND THE IDLE BE RE-SET??  THANK-YOU ALL FOR ANY HELP IN MY PERSONAL HELL

I notice you said you did a tune up did that include coils and control module? I have an 88, mine did the same thing, it turned out I had a hairline crack in a coil. So while I was under there I replaced all of it. took care of my problem. Hope this helps.
Oh, and welcome to the board.

Thanks for the reply tom, The answer to your question is no.  I didnt replace coils because all was fine before tune-up and after.  I will deffinately give it a shot though, with only 64,000 miles id hate to send her to the grave yard.  any idea how to perform an idle re-learn??  thankyou again, ill try your suggestion either this weekend or next and write back with the status.

Check out 60degreev6.com articles for idle relearn. I'm guessing it's the same on the older cars, it's like 5mins in drive with the foot on the brake or something like that I can't remember. I never do that with my 94 3100, it just learns on it's own later, and the idle never really messes up even after a long battery disconnect..

yup i would go with the ign module.  2.8 are commin with this problem when hot..  Half its problem is location it gets very hot their and can get wet.  also check for rust/corr on the coil towers.
Mr Goodwrench TIP  put silicone dieletric grease on all  connections including module to coil pins.. and also on back of module to the bracket..

a tip from personal experience DON'T GO WITH THE CHEAP ONES FROM ADVANCE OR AUTOZONE they usually burn up quick

ok guys, heres a new problem with this car now...   I have had the tcc solenoid replaced, along with many other parts(iac, tps, fuel pump, and a used ign. module.)  problem is now that car will run and idle, but there are times when the very second you try to give the car gas it will die, the car will idle and also roll in every gear, but when you give gas it dies right out.  any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thankyou very much

you have a vacuum   leak. check  the  intake  gaskets,  and the vacuum  lines  under the intake  manifold
