Morning!  Lookin for some help.  Just replaced the heater core on 94 Z26  3.1
Yesterday, the rad overflow was boiling over...what could be the cause?  Also replace the oil switch and the low oil level light comes...what could be the cause of that?  Just changed oil and it's still on and the oil level is just fine?  I'm a Mom and don't know all that much about cars, so I thought that I would ask the best, people with knowledge!!  Thanks ahead of time for any help!!  The low coolant level light also goes on and off.
Thanks again! ÂÂÂ

Check your radiator and make sure it is full, then we will go from there. On the oil, is it the level or the pressure? Your oil pump drive may be out if it's the pressure. I have posted on this may times, it seems to be something that many people have trouble with. I had to go through it my self.

Hey there Money pit!  Thanks for takin the time to help me out here...I really appreciate it.  Well, the rad was full till it boiled over the day after we replaced the heater core when I  took it for a drive.  We put some more in and I made it home.  The "low coolant level" light comes on and off, even if it's full!  Could it have anything to do with the thermostat?  With the oil pressure.....the oil pressure is pegged over the 80 mark and the "low oil level" light comes on and off.  But the oil level is just fine.  The car drives great and has major power, but I just don't know where to start.  When  I bought  it, here and there, the oil would like just be gone.  But I don't know where it could be going....but it hasn't done that in awhile. Any words of wisdom would be, again, greatly appreciated!  Thanks ~ Kimber~

If your intake manifold gaskets are leaking they can leak both oil and coolant. That's just FYI, from what you said I think their ok. Your thermostat may be stuck. Have you had the hood up when it is running? Is the water pump making noise? As for the lights you may have to go to a auto parts store and see if they will hook up a scanner. A code reader will only work if the check engine light is on. They don't charge you for it at most places. Check the wires for the sensors to see if there are cuts and are grounding out metal(touching).

Still havin problems with the radiator. Replaced the heater core......still smellin antifreeze. When drivin it, I see some steam coming out under the hood, but it doesn't happen all the time. Also replaced the rad cap. I've been told that there might be an air bubble in the rad.....any ideas on how to get rid of the air bubble? Thanks. ~Kimber~

Where is the steam coming out of? You need to find this before you can get the air out (the leak may bring air into the system).

Hey there Money Pit.....thanks for all your help. The steam is coming out of the rad overflow. It was leaking, but that stopped. Thanks again. Take care. ~Kimber~

Is everything ok? Do you still have the oil pressure problem?

Hi again Money Pit
Car is running fine, but the low oil level light is still on. The guage on dash for the oil, well it can't go any further....it's off the guage to be exact. Hopefully we can get around to putting in the oil level sensor by the oil pan sometime this weekend. Hopefully that is what's wrong.....we shall see. Thanks again. Take care! ~Kimber~

I hope that's it and not the gauge in the dash, that would be a pain in the butt. I'll be here.

You said you swapped the sender for the oil? If so and it now pegged out you most likely swapped it with the sender for the base cluster(without the guage.) I would double check that before anything else.

96 red base 3100...............Hey money and everyone else, I got the same low coolant light prob. When i rebuilt the top end of my motor, i drained all the coolant. Then rebuilt it, then went out and got 1 gallon of coolant, 1 gallon of distilled water, and one gallon of 50/50 mix coolant. The official gm guide said that it takes roughly 3 gallons of coolant. Therefore, that was my mixture. For the longest time, my retta only let me 2 gallons of coolant. Then one day, my low coolant light came on and i looked in my resevour and it was bone dry! I guess my thermostat opened up lol. So i put in more coolant (my third gallon) and it took 3/4 of it. Eventually over the past couple of weeks, it let me put in the other 4th of coolant but it has been boiling over every once in a while. Now I can't get my stupid light to turn off!!!!!!! It annoys the heck out of me and i want it off. I know i have enough coolant cause my car does not overheat at all. It runs below the quarter mark on my heat gauge all the time. I'm confused. BTW i did put in a 180 degree thermo when i rebuilt her. Any Ideas on how to get my light to turn off? I also checked the computer with my scanner and it says the coolant check has not ran yet. Interesting. Thanks!!!

Hey, man it's good to hear from you, but it seems to be only when things are not going well. Well let's get down to it. I lost the gasket on top of the water pump for the heater and the TB heater. After I had filled the cooling system 3 times I saw that my gauge was at the quarter mark most of the time. I changed the stat and also checked it with my scanner(it said 215 at the quarter mark), so I had to change the temp sensor( that took care of that). On the low coolant light I'm not sure, mine has been off for a long time(one month). All I can say is check for a small leak and check everywhere.

well i don't think it's leaking, i just think it's weird that now even with my reservoir full, it still says i have low coolant. It's just weird and i would like it off lol
