My 93 beretta 3.1 runs fine most of the time but has died on me several times after sitting at a a stop light. I give it gas and it just dies. I start it up and start to go and it dies agian. Did this three times last time and then it didn't do it agian for about a week. i just replaced the fuel filter, removed and cleaned the throttle body and replaced the battery. A friend of mine suggested that it might be the Idle air control.?

Once you get it going does it feel like a car with a stick shift that is in the wrong gear?

Another thing to check, if it acts up when warm it may be the crank position sensor in the back of the block..

MPB is leaning toward the TCC being an issue, I can tell by his question.

Yes, I was thinking about the converter and the switches on the valve body. Sounds like they may be ok.
My mind is mush right now and I'm having trouble thinking. Is the idle smooth when it's running right? When you turn the key to "on" and not start it does the fuel pump whine? It would help to know if the plugs and wires had been changed. You said that your friend didn't take care of it, so to me it could be many things. I also think it could be water in the tank(try some Heet). I just don't want to tell you to change this and that and miss something cheap and easy.

When I changed the fuel filter the gas was brown, I has the fuel system cleaned about a week ago. Plugs and wires about a year ago. Idle is smooth and it starts right up in the morning, even when cold. I have noticed that sometimes when I step on the gas from a dead stop there does seem to be a slight hesitation, but as i said it only happens some of the time. I will get some heet for it and try that. since I first posted this the car has been running great. no dieing but still has that hesitation "sometimes"

ICM or CPS, all day. Those are essentially the only 2 items that will shut the engine off without warning. If it was a fueling issue it would first sputter, and then die.

OK call me stupid but what is ICM and CPS? Also how do I go about checking these? Thanks for the help. the car stalled agian today, first time in two weeks. I was sitting at a stop light, it turned green, I gave it gas and it just died. no sputter no nothing, It did start right back up but then died agian and took me forever to get it restarted. it just sat there and cranked, didn't seem like it was even trying to fire.

Ignition Control Module(under the coils) and Crankshaft Position Sensor(just above the oil pan near the firewall). Is the speedo working?
