Any specific quirks to look for? 1993 3.1 Beretta
My god daughter will be getting her license soon, and I'm going to go take a look at this $800 1993 3.1 Beretta on Saturday...

Since I KNOW NOTHING about these cars, is there anything obvious I should look out, other than the usual leaks/drips...
How is the 3.1/auto?? This thing has 200k on it... My plan is IF I pick this up, I'd insure/register it myself, and drive it over the Summer months to give it a good rundown, and make any repairs deemed necessary, prior to her November birthday...
Thanks in advance...

I've never seen god parents this involved in a kids life... I guess I just wasn't that lucky.
Either way, typical leaks on a 3.1MPFI motor will be valve cover gaskets, the oil drive plug o-ring, and possibly oil pan gasket with that many miles.
The 3t40 autos are pretty reliable and if it shifts good and isn't making any horrible noises while your driving I'm sure it will continue to run ok. Just be sure to do a fluid and filter change on it when you start driving it, Stay away from a full blown flush, but half new fluid wouldn't hurt it.
I'm sure others will chime in with their experience with 3.1's and such. I'm a 3100/3400 4t60e guy for the most part so I'm not well experienced in owning a 3.1MPFI engine.
The pics look pretty solid for a 200k car... Check the door jambs up front tho, the one pic of the drivers door open I don't see any rust but always check for that. These cars are notorious for rotting out in that area.

Cool thanks!
I emailed one of my co-workers to borrow his car trailer, and he mentioned that he's got a friend selling his dead grandad's single-owner/always garaged Beretta for $1500... SOOO, I'm going to try to take a peek at that ASAP as well...

A white GT with blue interior and the rockers look pretty decent.
Nice!
Jon pretty well hit all the minor problem areas.
Have fun with it.

I could go on all day long, but I'm not going to. Valve covers can leak, EGR port can get alot of build up, rain leaks into the floor pan or rear seat, coils go out do to having the OEM wires on too long and the hose for the PCV valve can break when you try to pull the valve out. Yea, 3X00 covered most of the things that happen. If there is a pop in the front end the control arm bushings are out. Also check the swaybar end links because they rust and break. If the idle goes up and down the vapor canistor purge valve is bad. Intake gaskets go out also. Most of this is normal Beretta stuff. I had a 90GT 3.1/3T40 for 11 years and did lots of repairs. Check the fuel tank, if it's plastic it can crack and leak.

Excellent information guys, thank you...
Here's my Chevy...

Thanks to Toyota Motor Corp, my out of pocket expense was only $2,500 in cash for this ride... It was traded in June 07 by an 80 year old couple who bought it new in 2002... I picked it up from the same dealer in April 08 with 35,300 miles total...

Very nice, wish I had one. My friend has a 2000 Z28 that I got to drive and it was great. Your post should be in the "Members Rides" though.

That sucks man, that was a good price. I had to pay 2400 bucks for my 95.

Look at the serp belt. The cost to have it replaced is over $100 at a shop or two hours in your driveway with lots of tools and a floor jack. If they paid to have it done, they took good care of the car because most people will refuse a $100 belt change. The trunk under the spoiler is known for rusting cause the spoiler sits right on it. I removed mine and put small plastic washers to raise it 1/8".

Well, it now looks like I'll be visiting the GT this Saturday (the other interested buyer never showed), and will use many of your areas of interest during my inspection...
Thanks!
Thanks!

Just got back from a 3hr round trip... Bought It!
Going back down next Saturday with the car trailer, and bring it home... Power windows worked with no issues, minor surface rust in the expected areas, looked decent underneath minus the rear bumper mount area... Started right up, idled smooth drove up and down the street fine... Little "elbow resting" wear on the driver's door fabric and will need to find a couple of interior pieces though, particulary the console armrest... Will post a poo-load of pix next Saturday once I get it home...
Should be a good 1st car for my niece/god-daughter for her 17th birthday in November...

I also would be interested in the photos, comparing them to my little turqoise jewell of a 93 with 3.1. I've got 87000 original on mine.

Cool man! Where are the pics? I must say that I'd like to see you keep it. Most of the time first cars always get smashed(she could drive as her 2nd).
