Just figured what the heck and snapped a few new pics of the 'ol GT today.

Showin' off the new (used) wheels and the 12.98" front rotors.



And this answers the question... It's tight, but 8.5" wheels do fit. The tires are 245/40R17


Got Camber?

Holy CRAP. What is your alignment set for? I like the wheels... they remind me of the 4th-gen Camaro 5-spokes.

Haha, I haven't even really driven it since the suspension was assembled. So I think it's at max negative camber. Needless to say I have to go for an alignment!

The wheels are fronts from a C5.

So are you running an adapter down to 5x100 or is your big brake setup from a 5x4.75 car?

There's a 1" thick adapter from 5x100 to 5x120.67 in the rear. The front has the 5x120.67 bolt pattern, but because of the high offset wheels has a 1.5" hubcentric spacer.

It's kinda funny the stock drums are still in the back... I have some stuff to put 12" rotors in the rear, but just haven't gotten that far yet.

Bad news on the brackets. Due to some supplier issues, etc.. they can't get done in time for the haul to bfest. I guess I'll just toss on some 11" rotors for the meantime.

Once you got the camber aligned, did these tires/wheels ever rub in corners and bumps?

I NEED all the traction I can get... looking into options here....

I need a good street tire that won't burn up in one summer. I'd rather run a wider size and get traction than a tire that will wear super fast.

STOCK 3400, 2.5" exhaust, no cat, unknown muffler:
1st gear 50% throttle = hitting rev limiter, flying into the next lane.
2nd gear WOT, came up to around 3 grand, then boom same thing.

That's with 18" Enkei wheels with Nitto NeoGens at 25psi.

I've got to move the passenger engine mount back 1" to align things and fix a swaybar endlink, but even if that solves the traction (I highly doubt it) I'll need more traction when my 11.5:1 cammed 3400/3500 w/headers goes in... It will probably help with the car shooting into the lane next to me, but not a whole lot with traction....

8.5's and 245's thats some fitment I like to see!

Everyone is so afraid to go anything bigger than a 225. Ill be doing 245's with the new tires, but on a 8 inch wheel. I dont mind a little rubbing.

What rubs? Just the splash guards? If so screw em, I won't be driving in the rain anyway. Only concern I have is rubbing the fenders, or turning then hit a bump and boom fender is jacked up...

And WTH are all the 17" aftermarket wheels in our bolt pattern only 7" wide... My 16" Z26 wheels are 7" wide, I want an upgrade!

Yeah, they do rub on the fenders a little bit.. Keep in mind the 245s are only in the front.

The fenders could probably have the edges crimped to eliminate most of the rubbing. There's also a 1.5" spacer on the front wheels due to the high-offset.

You ever get the caliper brackets made up?
