New bests THROUGH THE MUFFLERS! AND CAI thoughts

14.26 @ 98.96 MPH in 100% street legal trim. (Spare tire, jack, full interior, full exhaust)
That is the way I have to run now in this new "Pure Street" Class. It sucks, but it's kind of neat to know just what it will do.
Nice day, about 70*F and the little bugger was running about perfect!
I lost in the 3rd Round but I'm happy and looking forward to Albany!!
EDITTED!! That was with a 12" short WAI.
CAI
FTMFL with all those "Air Hell" bends and trying to feed from a fenderwell on our cars where there is for the most part NEGATIVE Air Pressure!

How about some pics of your short ram Eric? I'd like to see it. Are you running a stock crank pulley? Do you have headers? And where are Fastlanes headers? Any word on when they will be out?

There are pics on the B'fest site I think and on the NE site.
It's just a 12" eBay thing. Really nothing very special at all.
Stock crank pulley. Have to keep it for the crank trigger on a 3500.
S&S Headers modified by Lil'Jon, but they won't let me open them.
Fastlane seems to have disappeared.

I just didn't think you would a cheap WAI. With the MRZ pulley they give you a overlay to put the crank trigger wheel on. I have one for my 3100, but don't have it on yet(also a March overdrive pulley for the alt).
Where is Fastlane? Does anybody know? I need some headers!

Yeah fastlane just vanished and screwed over all my plans. I had the cash set aside and all.
Im gonna order up a set of pacesetters for a grand prix for 382 shipped and get hacking so I too can have headers.

I had a CAI on there and it slowed the car down.
So I did alot of reading, and asked alot of questions with some H/VAC and air flow people I sought out.
A couple of interesting things were learned.
1. Every 45* bend in a 3" tube reduces airflow by 32%
2. The wheel well on all cars actually has NEGATIVE air pressure in most areas, meaning that is a BAD PLACE to go looking for intake air.
3. Under the front bumper is also suspect insofar as positive air flow is concerned.
So because I have pretty easy access to a National Level dragstrip, I went up on a Friday evening and made a ton of runs with the a CAI in a couple of locations. No flexible tubes or crud. All silicone couplers and 3" tubing.
The car was quicker and faster with just the short 12" tube sitting just behind the battery.
In fact is was almost as quick with nothing on the TB, but there likely is a straightening affect the tube allows.
Now those are just my findings, and I am going to work with Rodney on tuning, but I am of the opinion the CAI on a dragrace application may be a compromise.
Hell just look at the MPH this thing is running. It is certainly not starving for air!

CAI delete mod coming up soon on my car!

I'll be interested to see just how your car responds.

Why doesn't someone measure the pressures? I bet a Z04 car is vastly different than a Base/GT FYI.

I would amost assume a Z04 would be worse, since it has the duct work to direct the air right at the radiator, so even if your getting some blow by through that its still nicely warmed air
Data logs should show a difference, you will see a positive fuel trim or a leaner wideband reading if it is really making a difference.
I am in the process of tuning mine now so if I made the change I might see the result.

I noticed my wideband readings are higher (leaner) now with the short WAI than the CAI in ANY location.
Went from consistent 14.8's-15.3's on the highway to well into the high 15's and low 16's at 3500 rpm/72 mph.
I didn't look at the top end 'cause it's sort of a distraction, but I'll make a note to glance down this weekend at the track.
What does that tell you? LOL!!
It seems to be correcting itself today (I just took it back down to the garage) but there was a noticable difference in the readings immediately after the elimination of the CAI.

Yeah your BLM's will take over and correct, but right when you make the change you'll see leaner wideband readings... But then after you would have to look at the BLM for you, or the fuel trims for me.

Yeah Barry, looks like I'm screwed too.
Hey Eric, any thoughts about getting the under drive crank pulley and the overdrive alt pulley? Faster revs without having to go into the engine, it sounded pretty good to me. I should get mine on in about two weeks.

WEll if I could get Mathieu to respond to me on some other parts he has of mine, I would be happy to give him some more business.
Good guy, great products, but impossible to get ahold of, and YES I have even called him!
However I'm not changing much of anything before NE in Albany.
N/A and with the exhaust open I think this is the car to beat, and that number is hopefully in the 13's. But then I would be even MORE obnoxious than usual
Having said that, I would be delited to see someone quicker. It just raises the bar, doesn't it?

I have played with a WAI vs the stock airbox(behind headlight)
I found that the stock airbox brought cooler air in driving around town, but anything over 25/30 mph the temps stay very similar.
Obviously I do feel a differnce between the 2, the wai feeling better.
My underhood temps get pretty damn warm in traffic, and headers arent going to help that at all. Ive seen 68* celcius under the hood. Not sure if thats bad?
Think about where the air from the cai is coming from... Its basicly a sealed box in there, just sucking air through the gaps in the inner fender stuff.
It would be cool to do a cai and cut that inner fender box open and make a very small scoop and see how that works.
