5-Speed Shift Cables.

On my way to work today, the select cable went out on my GT. Good thing the 3400 has an abundance of torque to start out in 3rd!

Looking through the parts guide, it appears that there are a few different styles of shift cables that were offered over the years...

'87-early '88

Late '88

'89-'91

'92-'94

Anyone know the differences? It's kinda limited in what I can get for a new replacement.

Basically the run down is that It's a '89 GT with a trans for a '94 Z24 that has a shift cable bracket I think from a '88? Sunbird GT Turbo.

I guess that you can get them, but here is another place that has them. https://dmauto.com/web/dmauto/Catalog/N ... +4/8/8005/

Yeah, I can get at least 3 styles of the cable. I just didn't know if one was better than the other or if they interchange or not.

The first years had just plastic ends with no rubber bushings. They feel a little firmer.

All of them work, but if you want 92-94's you need to swap to a 92-94 shifter(bigger pin diameter). I know that the 92-94 cables have bushings on both sides, my 88 ones have just plastic snap on ends.

Ahh... OK. I'd rather have it firmer, so I'll keep the original style.

There is a place that makes poly bushings for the cables. I don't remember the name of that place, but they were called Booger Bushings. I swear that they make some that will work on cables for a Beretta. I ran into them when looking for the cables for another member.

The Rodney Dickman stuff is brass, but yes it is a huge improvement.

Ok, I found the site. It says that they will work with the Getrag 282 and 284. http://www.boogerracing.com/boogerbushings.html

Oh, you meant just the ends. I was referring to a whole new cable... Those cables above are on a GT50 or GT3 Porsche transmission in a kit car.

Why don't you talk to these guys?

http://www.push-pull.com/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Or these...

http://www.madisonpowersystems.com/1cables/cables.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think its time someone sends a set of stock cables out for reproduction so others can get them made too. Its obvious that standard car part manufactures are not planning on replicating our cables.

I like this idea.

I have a spare pair of cables too.

Woody get on it! I don't have any cables period.. LOL Well I have some busted stock ones welded up to crap, but that doesn't help us.

hell even ones that have a nut so you can bolt them down like the picture above, and heim joints would be awesome, even if it wasn't a direct drop in, as long as they are the right length/etc and we just had to attach them that would be cool. For sure be solid then.
