Thats a new one! Never heard of that happening.

It could of been a piston through the hood, you got the easy one. :x

A hole in your hood is a hole in your hood... made by a piston or Alt cooling fin... still blows goats.

Best of luck fixing it.

Wow! I have to admit I have never heard of that, and I have been around forever!

Thank God you weren't in close proximity.

But maybe it's an opportunity!

Lumina Vents if you're lucky and it's in the appropriate spot.

Or a damn good excuse for the cowl hood.

Put a vinyl stripe on the hood like I was thinking?

I have a set of red lumina vents that I will probably NEVER use since I have the USbody hood... drip trays and everything.

I don't care for the lumina vents, and It's not in a good spot anyway. It hit right where the "dip" lines are in the hood and also raised up the metal around it a good diameter away. Either way it's going to cost a lot for a new hood or to beat this one down all over and then bondo and paint. I haven't looked at the underside yet. It's going to require paint and someone to spray it so it will be $$$ no matter what you do.

A cowl hood would be nice, but that still is going to cost me money and a lot of time. More than just fixing/replacing the hood. Thing is I can't get a hood for free (last one was) and the junkyards here are going to want 600 or more for a hood. It may be cheaper to fix the hood if I do the work, I'll have to get a welder and beat and fill and then bondo the crap out of it though. The spot isn't really big, but if you figure out how far up it's raised, and then look closely at how large of an area that is bowed up from that, you realize it's going to take a lot of working the metal to get it flat, and then you gotta reshape the groove in the hood there.. I barely have time to put on my trans mount this weekend, now that may not happen as I'll be trying to get a ride to get the alt replaced. I'm not driving it as is for fear or more pieces flying off and cutting the belt, shattering the powersteering pump, etc etc.

It happened late at night when I went to get some gas so I didn't have to deal with getting gas in the busy morning and I was really upset so I didn't take pics. It took forever driving it back home keeping it under 2000 RPM, which even at that speed you could hear noise from it. I had a hard enough time trying to get a ride to work today. Makes me want to go to a different style alt with the fins inside the alt, so if they explode it will be enclosed...

Yeah it is a good thing my face wasn't there. I looked at it right before coming home yesterday as I heard a *slight* noise coming from under the hood. I had my face right by the alt trying to figure out if it was the alt or not. I figured it was the bearings and I was going to swing by ORiellys today after work with tools and show them and then take it off and get it replaced for free, but it didn't last that long...........

I'd much rather have a piston blow, because at least I'd have an excuse to put in a bigger motor. I have/had plans for easily going to OBD1 (plug and play, disconnect ECM, connect harness to new ECM running DF code) to tune so bigger engine is no problem. But this just costs me money with no gain.

For the time and effort needed to make a different style alternator fit, vs how often this actually happens I don't think its worth it.

Now if this was like the 3rd or 4th time you've exploded one, ok then MAYBE I would think about finding a better solution. If this is a re-man alternator I think you just need to switch brands or parts stores.

600 bux for a yard hood... thats the price of a new USBody one.

Brand new hood....

Granted you would have to have it shipped and painted, but its better than spending 600 on a yard piece that still needs work too.

You cant grab a good one from a junkyard that is already the color you need? That color isnt that rare, and IIRC, the local Walton junkyard has one I could probably get for $50, though I'd have to take a look at the paint finish. I know it's the same color.

I used to see aqua cars in the yard all the time, until I got one. Now I've only seen one

I have a CS130-D alternator on mine. It's just a different bracket to make it fit. Though you have to watch how far back it sits, at least with the manual trans.

There are only a few yards close by. Other than that it's time for 8+ hour drives. I did that when looking for parts for when I hit a deer (2004ish). Drove all day and the cheapest place for a door was $500, and it wasn't even the right year.

Finding an Aqua hood would be rare. Even rarer to find one not beat to hell or chipping paint. The hood I have now is an 87 I got for free. I stripped to bare metal cause of the bad primer/flaking paint and got it PERFECT. Not anymore... The local yards crushed all their older cars when the steel prices were high. There aren't hardly any beretta's on the road now so there aren't many in the yards here.

I could have a chinese metal one shipped cheaper I'm sure, but who knows the quality of that..........

I just don't have the time for this and DONT want to drop the money on it. I gain nothing from this. No upgrade with this... I dont have a truck to go pick up one either. I'd have to drive to the yard with no hood, take the hood off, CARY the heavy bastard through the long muddy yard and then bolt it on in the parking lot. Then take it off, put old hood on, then prep the new one in the garage, then take it somewhere and pay out the ass for paint. Just not looking forward to this crap.

Cliff, pics/details please.

I have an aftermarket fender on my GT and NO ONE can tell.

I suppose it depends where you get it from.

Some of the stuff is OK.

But it has to be a huge P'O!!

It looks like the center was broke for a while, as there was dirt there. Then one end came loose, flung out and the other tore off.
I'll get pics of the hood tomorrow. I took this real quick before my ride to the parts store. It's dark now and I've gotta run.

Was that a Palladium? I have one on my car. Dang Isaac, wish we were closer. I could get a truck and drive a hood over there(it would have a liftgate on it). There are all kinds of hoods over here(Beretta and Corsica). Makes me sick to hear that this happened!
