I've had a 90 with a 2.2 in it and now I have a 95, and the head gasket blew on both of em'. Somebody know why this happens?

It's a fairly common problem on that engine series.
Not too hard a fix, but still a pain!

Aluminum head on an iron block. If you're an idiot and you start the car up and beat on it when its cold that is going to happen.
2.2s don't suck, worthless owners suck. :sparta
Besides, its only a 5 or 6 hour job total that can be done with basic hand tools.

They get beat on much more often too due to there lower power output.

First off I meant why do not why so. I'm far from a worthless owner too, My beretta is my baby, I bought it w/ 30k on it and it has been my daily driver for years. I've also maintaned it acceptionally well, although you may not think so because I apperently BEAT IT.

The head gaskets wont live long since those engines have EGR designed so that it heats the other end of the cylinder head more

the only 2.2 headgasket that i have ever done myself i put on with a strongarm (this was before i knew of torque wrench) car went about 80000km before the heatercore split and it overheated cracked the head best 2.2 i ever had. cheaper to replace the motor in the end

Has anyone ever heard of it happening to one w/ a 5 speed? I found one w/ 150k on it. It's a 96' light blue and in amazing shape. It's on a used car lot here in p.a for $1995. If you go to cars or autotrader.com and search for Berettas you will find it. Theres like 20 pics of it. Tell me what ya think and if anyone's ever heard it happen to a 5 speed. If nobody has i just might buy it, not for that price though, I'll try for like $1300-1500
Thanks Err1

A 2.2 is a 2.2. Different trans doesn't affect pre-existing engine conditions that are known to occur. There are no guarantees in this life.

I just thought it might make a diffrence because you can control the revs better and you don't have to wind it out as much so the
engine would'nt get beat on as badly. I was pickin' up a rim and the guy who works at the place has a 93' base w/ a 2.2 5 speed w/ almost 200k on it and he has never had a problem with the head.
I got the guy who has the 96' on his lot to settle at $1500. I'm gonna get it i think and just hope the engine holds up.

Good to know. Is it a 5 speed? As soon as I sell the base I got now for what ever I can get for it Ima get the 96'. I can't wait! The car is in amazing shape, and I got some plans for it too.

I wish I had your luck, hopefully I will w/ this 96'. Open the hood when it's running and see if you smell coolant. belive me catch it early, if you do you will only have to replace gaskets not the whole head. Good luck with it.
