I have a 94 Z26 with the 2.3 liter.  A few weeks back my rear brake cylinder started to leak so I replaced that.  Now whenever I get on the brakes hard by ABS and E-brake light come on.  The voltmeter also goes to not charging.  The other thing that puzzles me is the tach goes up to 7 grand when the motor is clearly running at around 3.  The speedometer also jumps up and down.  I can shut the car off and start it back and runs fine till I really get on the brakes.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is your alternator going out?

I noticed when mine went out (2 instances) that the ABS light would come on, and also the speedometer would bounce even when sitting still.

The ABS is sensitive to voltage fluctuations, as well as the speedo...


I would also check for leaks. If you have a leak or low level it can trip the "ebrake" light
