A project suggestion: The History of Berettafest

I've posted this to the BFest mailing list already, so I figure it would be a good idea to post it here as well.
This is an idea that popped into my head after the question popped up
today of what number of BFest are we going to be on this year? I was
thinking that 97 or 98 was the first one, from what I remember hearing in
the old days, but I really have no idea.
With that being said, I think it might a good idea to start compiling a
history of BerettaFest to put probably on beretta.net once Will and Co.
gets the makeover done. As the years go by and members move on we tend
to have to live in the moment, or in recent history just because we lose
the firsthand accounts and recollections.
It doesn't need to be extravagant, even just a chart with a listing of
cities by year, car and people turn-out, and maybe a few notations about
the Fest itself like activities and drag strip/or other racing activities
as well.
Just kind of putting this out there to get some feedback now. It would
take a bit of work, but it would be helpful to have and a good tool in
keeping track of our history.
Feedback, ideas, suggestions, comments, criticism - all welcome!
I'm willing to help out however I can.

Sorry Kurt, Anything under the BerettaFest sub-forum needs approval.

No worries, I kind of thought that. But I thought there was a chance I might have previewed my original message and then hit cancel - wouldn't be the first time. So I resubmitted just to be sure a post would get up, sorry for sending it double.
Any thoughts about this Jon?

I think it's a great idea, I sent will a PM asking him to get a link to the old bfest page that used to be on bnet before, that would at least show all the previous years and where they were.

Cliff is a near instant historian - only not attending the very first Bfest in '97. Some of the hard numbers may be difficult to come by, but I like the challenge. I think we'll tackle this throughout the planning year in the committee and get something put together!

This was part of the plan for the bfest site that I had gone over at last years meet. I also plan to have a user photo album for bfest attendees, but most of this stuff I need to go over with the committee yet. As soon as we get the info together for this year and I get feedback on how the form should ideally be set up for registration going forward, this will be set up. As for the old bfest data, like I had said several times, it was all done in cgi that was coded to the implementation on the old server, which doesn't map to the new one so it isn't as simple as just tossing it back up. I am finished with the server install that I was working on over the past month so I now have some time to give to the sites over the next few weeks. Look for some updates soon on that front.

Just a heads up folks: I am going to revive this project in the very near future! I have contacts still active, and also not active, that will help compile this. I will spearhead this myself as I just realized that I have helped organize 10 out of the 16 BerettaFests. I'm close to a historian myself at this point! Look for more on this by the end of summer!

Kyle, where did you get the car attendance info? Just extracted from the group pics? I think just about every year we are missing a few cars from the group shot...

Very good info. I will definitely try to incorporate it into the berettafest app. My over all idea was to have a portable database of past events. It is going to take a lot of work seeing how hard it is to get info from members for an event that was only a couple of months ago.
