1996 Base 2.2 Trouble Starting, Making Weird Noise
Shays 1996 Base has been having trouble and was going to ask here first before diving into it in 20 degree weather.
When you turn the ignition to the on position, there is some kind "buzzzzzing" noise that sounds like coming from behind the dash cluster or somewhere below that general area for about 2-3 seconds. Also, sometimes the cluster lights don't come on. If the lights don't come on, then the car won't start. It will turn over but shut right off.
So I just mess with the key shaking it until the cluster lights up then it will start fine.
Once it's running there is no problems at all. Works perfect.
Any ideas?

Sounds like the ignition switch is just worn out.
But before you start tearing it all apart make sure all the connectors under the dash at the steering column are tight.
