Bad Sound, like a diesel

Hey guys. I'm having an issue with my 2.8. I had a big clanking/ticking sound coming from it about a week ago, and was told that it could be the hydraulic lifters went bad. So I replaced them and no change. Sound is still there. Here are some videos of the sound. The quality is horrible, yes, but you can still here that noise.

I wanna know what you guys think. Thanks.

Most likely a bad rod bearing... I know not what you wanted to hear, but if you keep driving it you will completely destroy the crank... If you caught this right when it happened you might have been able to save it. Now it may be too far along and your looking at getting another 2.8 or a 3.1 to replace it, or a 3400 as an upgrade if you want to do the extra work.

thanks for the help Jon.

Eric is right, car-part is your best way to find an engine, local or not, you may even be able to save money having it shipped to you, vs buying one local if your prices are high in your area.

Might as well just get a 3.1. There a tad bit newer and install the same way pretty much...

Barry is on to something here perhaps.

If that is a California car with no rust it would certainly be a perfect candidate for a 3x00 swap.

Dang man thought that engine was going to go to 300K. Sorry to hear that it's gone.

By far not a cheap engine, but it's a GM reman.

It is indeed a no rust California car, and I have plans for it. :D

yea, Watsonville is like WAAAAY up there near San Francisco.
San Bernardino is like 20-ish minutes, but for $500 I can just go grab low-miles 3500

What I'm going to do for the moment is this: I just found a black-interior Beretta, which I took parts from, at my local yard and it's a 3.1 5-speed. I can probably get the whole drivetrain for like $400 and refresh that motor a little and have it last as long as possible, and do my 5-speed swap while I'm at it. Once I get things in my life straight and on firm ground, I'll have the groundwork ready for my final step, the 3500. :burn:

Things may not be as dismal as I first thought them to be. I got all emo there for a moment. Thanks for all the help gentlemen. The only obstacle in my way right now is location, like, where in the hell am I gonna work on this to make it work. I'll get something figured out.

I thought so too. It makes me sad that it won't but the body itself continues.

The thing is that it lasted damn long. Much longer than anyone ever thought it would. The poor motor had a long hard life, and it just couldn't take it anymore, but like I said, my car continues to live and will not stop now. We've been through too much together to just end it here.

That's good to hear that you and the car will keep on going. Sorry there is a big storm on top of me and I got to get off.
