That would actually work??? I've always been curious about this engine in a beretta and it's the 3.4 DOHC out of the older grand prix gtp, Monte Carlo, or the cutlass supreme convertible. I've always wondered if this swap would be possible and what all would be involved with mounting this monster up the the factory beretta k-frame. I know one thing looking under the hood with this motor while it's still in the w body grand prix it looks like a perty tight fit. Tell me your thoughts on this swap cause I got many parts available to my advantage working for a salvage yard i can get my hands on everything.

its been done, many, many, many times, its actually a pretty much strait forward direct swap.

^^^ retard.

No it's not a easy fit. The 3400 is much easier being that it is similar to the 3100

My mom had that engine in her old car and it had three timing belts. Costs alot to replace them. It was fun to drive for sure, but your best bet is a 3400.
Oh wow you work at a JY! Your going to be the go to man here if there are any Beretta's in the yard.

Three timing belts? What? I only know of one timing belt and one chain... and only the belt has to be replaced, but yes still a pita. Also IIRC it has one serpentine belt.

Working on a 3.4 DOHC is a pita. Its a cool motor tho, and an interesting swap. If youve got the time, dont let anyone try to convince you that you have to do a 3400 swap.

Weigh the pros and cons for what you want. The 3.4 is cool, but the 3400 has a large.aftermarket performance availability at this point.

Yep they want timing belts every 60k.

What exactly would work to still keep my speedometer working, could I use the harness from the grand prix...lumina...Monte Carlo...cutlass...etc and still keep everything inside working, cause I would love to do this swap if I could get it to work what would be the best year to work with, I don't know if they switched them to obdll or not or just keep the obdl setup through all years they made this monster, I live the fact that it's dohc and a 24 valve it's like puttin a monster quad4 minus 2 cylinders right, I would be curious what a .030 over block with some good pistons, balanced bottom end and nice roller top end with a good set of cams would be like in our L-body

Yeah it is a cool motor if you can pull it off.

Ok that makes more sense, He said it has 3 timing belts, not needed 3 over its life.

Just going off what the shop told my mom. The Cutlass was having a timing problem, they said that they changed two chains. It still had the problem and she took it back and they said there were three. The cost was going to be higher because it was harder to get to. She gave up and sold the car to someone else, because the guy working on it said that he wanted to buy it.

Sorry about the miss info there. Good luck on your swap.

Sounds like someone was trying to swindle someone on that deal there MPB....

Must admit, that would be a badass engine. Of course there is a monster 3800 SC out there that a few members have done as well... lol

Someone can donate one of those engines to me, and I'll promise to swap it in to my black car :)

SHO drive train swap would be cool too.. There is actually one(1) in this country...
