Hello all. I really need your help or advice with this issue. This started yesterday as I was on my way to work. I was going about 55 mph when the car suddenly begin to (I'm going to say) lose power, and gradually slow down to the point where I thought it was going to shut off even though I had my foot on the acceleration. This happened at random times both yesterday and today and it's becoming more frequent. The car will "lose power" and begin to decelerate for about 5-15 seconds), and then it will recover and go back to running normally. It even shut off on me while I was at an intersection waiting for the green light. It scared the crap out of me every time because I thought it was going to die on me. I really want to know what the heck the problem is. What part of the car do you think is causing this issue?

I would say your TPS is faulty...but it could be any number of things. Is your SES light on?

Lots of miles, could be any number of things, from loose wiring connection to faulty sensor to problems with fuel delivery....
Going to have to eliminate things. Start with the simple things first and go from there. If you are getting any SES (service engine soon) lights on your dash, those can also give you information, but you have to find a place that can read the code for an OBD1.5 system.
Let us know if there are any other factors to consider, recent repair history, etc.

Nope.

Now that I think about it, this started right after I had Myson's Tire change the oil and oil filter. Hmm.... I want to try and fix this myself because I am really short on cash at the moment. I want to start small and work my way up. If you can tell me what to check and where to look, I'll give it a shot. Hopefully it's something really simple.
I've also been having problems cranking up the car. This started right after I had a mechanic replace a broken push rod in the engine. He told me that it was running a bit rough after he fixed the push rod but I wonder why he didn't bother to try and fix it since he supposedly caused it. Before he worked on it, it used to crank on a dime. Now it takes a while to crank and it sounds like crap cranking up. Any ideas on what could have caused this? Sometimes (very seldom) it will crank within 3 seconds. Other times it could take more than 5 seconds. And when it does crank, the engine would run loud and fast for a few and then run normally. Other times when I crank it up, the engine would run loud and fast and stay that way until I cut the car off and crank it up again. If I were to put it in drive while it's running like that, it would make a loud knock sound and jerk the car forward. Almost as if something were about to break.

I am hoping to get a few more years out of this vehicle. It now has over 255,000 miles on the counter but I have yet to experience any major breakdowns. If I take good care of it and change the oil every three months, how much longer do you think it will run for?
