well today i found a 94 grand am with a quad 4 in it at the junkyard, i look under the hood and see orange shift cables, so of course the tear down begins... upon getting them out, i realize the side extruding from the firewall into the engine compartment are orange on one cable, black on the other(like any other cable ive seen, however, the side that runs into the interior is dark blue on one cable, and light blue on the other, has anyone else ever seen anything like this before??? this is a first for me...

I've seen those colors before at the yard and around at my parts jobs...

I know that ain't factory coloring, and they look like aftermarket units on the ends to me... Is the orange covering almost more of a silicone type of cover than usual rubber or braided stuff? I know several companies have universal cables, and they usually have funky ass colors and coatings.

Or perhaps, captain ricer went overboard with paint? Or was trying to save them from heat?

What condition are they in?

there rubber, i'll get better pics, the interior was all complete before i tore it up to get the cables out. its the same type of rubber that is orange except this is blue, its not painted, its like a blue foamy rubber.

I have seen stock cables be the blue color. I had a set in my car that was blue and had GM numbers all over them. Its just a different year of manufacture and whatnot. The aftermarket ones IIRC are covered with black rubber. GM used the orange and blue.

Next time your at that yard grab me that map cover please! :D
