would there be any kind of noticeable HP/performance gain from removing a Cat converter and adding a better exhaust (both actions together).. I know the exhaust would help, but would removing the Cat converter help it breathe better? In the past my other 2 v6 berettas didn't have Cats in them, and never had trouble passing emissions. I'm just curious.. I plan on having a reasonable performance chip burned (if the quad 4 forums will ever let me post since I joined tonight), and also adding a cold air intake... anything else I should consider..? I was looking into headers for my GTZ too, premade or whatever... thoughts? oh and BTW I finally get to pick her up, the engine has been rebuilt and I'll take her for her first drive in 5 months tomorrow.. I'm excited as hell. can't wait to N/a tune her and such, I plan on eventually buying another GTZ if my fiance gets her own new car.. either way this Garnet I spent so much fixing is going to be garaged forever after I get a 2nd vehicle

Not really... The only time you'll notice great improvements without a cat is if your running lots of forced induction or something of that sorts... on a NA motor the high flow cats you can buy these days will flow plenty of air.

ok thanks Jon .. now are the headers sold on the q4 forums hard to bolt onto the GTZ? would you know if the exhaust needs a lot of fabrication.

Ron's header is bolt on. You'll need to upgrade the exhaust to fit the new header though. Excellent choice to buy that header. Don't skimp. Get the ceramic coating for the extra $60 or w/e it is. Unless you like melting shifter cables....

I have to voice my opinion on this matter as i have been in this place.

DO NOT REMOVE THAT CAT!! I removed mine and i HAD to put it back on. Reason being, it was too tinny and raspy, sounds like a garbage ricer car, and i seemed to loose some low end power feeling from it.

I put a cat back on my car, the sounds was better, it felt a lil more peppy on the low end and get this, i got 3mph more on the highway with the cat then i did with it So take it from someone who has been there, dont take the cat off. Just put a shorter, higher flowing cat on and call it a day.

That's why God (and man,lol) invented glass packs Geoff. You don't just remove the Cat. You put a glass pack in it's place if you want to keep the sound quality similar. Trust me, it works. I've done it on a few cars. Well, me and my muffler guy! Shhhh......

If you get a header you really want to have a cat in there except you like very ricey sound after 4k rpm
