Anybody have a Jasper motor? or ever bought one?

I took my Z into the shop to get the cam tower oil leak fixed and they found bad cams. They had pitting and bad wear marks on them.

Soo..

Now im having them put in a new Jasper engine. They are saying that there is a 2 or 3 year (cant remember which) warranty and if something goes wrong that it covers the shops labor to fix it and the motor..

Anybody have experience with them? Hopefully im doing the right thing...

edit.. it says on their website its 3 year 100,000 miles warranty..

They are a long time reman engine company so I don't forsee you having any issues with them... Only problem may be that you will not get exactly the same engine as you had... such as some of SGR's findings on his car... I don't think he had a replacement motor, but he has a LO crank pulley on a HO motor, Just something done somewhere where they just overlooked that there was a difference between the two, and sometimes you do not get the same head casting as you once had, so if you had a good head don't let it go.

I believe that my replacement engine is a Jasper.

It has been running strong for the just about 30,000 miles I have put on it, dealt with being dusty and dirty from Rally Cross and I have not had a single issue.

Jasper is probably the best widely used engine remanufacturer. My question is why are you having them swap the engines? That's cake, and having them do it will probably cost you a grand or more judging by the outrageous prices they've quoted you thus far.

I'll seriously drive over and swap the engine into your car for like $600 if you rent a cherry picker.

Shawn, I would seriously take him up on this. You'll be saving tons of money and Kurt know his shiz.

Kurt i sent you a PM. My buddy works at O-Reilly auto parts and if your willing to swap it then i can get a new motor for less than 2100 instead of 2800+ through that shop for Jasper...

I just need to know by 4 pm tomorrow so i can cancel the Jasper in time.. Thanks

Dude, for $700, get the Jasper. O'reilly motors suck ass. Seriously. Buy the Jasper and get Kurt to help you install it.

Jasper Quad probably won't be a HO motor. I have seen weird stuff done to cars. Found an 086 head that was a newer casting....smaller ports etc. I don't think there are any proper LG0 parts out there. I wonder what happened to that cam towers on your head. Typically the threads in the head for the cam tower's strip...which could cause that problem. You could fix the top end of your motor before you start dumping money into something that probably isn't the same. 1994's are already detuned enough. At least you found a mechanic willing to work on a Quad 4. Most of us have learned to just learn the motor and work on it ourselves.

I've got to agree with Mike, as an ORLY employee at a store that sells a decent amount of engines... I don't hear enough rave stories to forgo buying a Jasper. While the cack is correct and I too have seen some weird Q4 things from them, the engine will likely run for the period of the warranty without issue.

This shop wanted 4950 installed for the new Jasper motor. They said the motor was 2800. I was iffy and they knocked it down to 4750.

I have been thinking ALOT on this lol.

I was just going to have them do it, get it over with done whatever... but

If i pay kurt 800 to do it then the total for the engine would be 3600. so that leaves some to buy the 086 head, W41 cams and towers off of Jamie at Bfest.. so later on i can get all that swapped into the Jasper motor???

Thoughts???

This is a big decision lol.

Hopefully the $2800 price still holds on the Jasper engine without them doing the install. You know I'm down to put the engine in.

If you're planning on going W41 and a proven 086 head later on down the road, I think you may be on a good path here. But, it's your decision in the end. Just keep me posted.

I know they already have the old motor tore down. Im not sure how they are going to take me telling them this.

They had the cams and such laying out on the work bench..

I dont know how it will work just to make sure i have everything. I know i will need everybolt and all that so when Kurt helps put the new motor in. Also where each bolt goes lol.

I will see in the morning lol

Right path... Maybe... the question is, whats wrong with the lower end of the engine that makes it worth 2800 to replace it... because your obviously planning on doing the head and cams again shortly.

I think its almost worth finding something cheap and slapping it together to fix your current cam issue at hand and then upgrading to the 086 and W41 stuff... Unless there is something wrong with the lower end that I'm not aware of.

I know it's a matter of ability but I hat to see people spend this much money on a motor when DIY would end up way cheaper, and sometimes get more attention to detail since it's not a huge reman shop doing the motor.
