What is the best way to remove the alternator pulley? When pulling the one from the car in the yard I didn't have to care and I bent like 5 of the alternator fan blades. Don't want to do that with my car's alternator.

can't you rent pulley extractors from O'Reilley's or Autozone or something? I did when I removed my Crankshaft pulley a LOOONG time ago.

I dont think hes talking about a pulley that you have to pull with a puller,
Hes talking about trying to turn the nut off the alternator to get the pulley off,
which means you have to hold it from spinning,
thus the reason why hes bending the blades because hes trying to stop it from spinning by holding the blades

Use an old piece of belt, C-Clamp the belt onto your pulley, then use that to hold it in place with one hand while you loosen the nut with the other.. Simple.

Impact is the best way. The other way sounds feasible too.

I already have the pulley from the yard Slinky. I need to remove the pulley on my car to replace it with the one from the yard. Sounds like I'll be trying Ace's method!

Take it into a parts store. All of the ones I've worked at have had electric impact wrenches behind the counter for swapping alternator pulleys. It's all of a 10 second procedure.

Ugh... I just spent like 20 minutes trying to get it off! It would not budge!!! I had a fuggin four foot long pry bar on it and all it did was start to spin the internals too! Sigh, I'm just going to go to the yard and pull an entire friggin alternator with the smaller pulley. I need a second one anyway.

For little stuff like that an electric impact would be perfect.

RYAN!!! Take it to a store!!! It seriously is as Kurt says...ten seconds MAYBE!!! Or walk it down to your mechanic friends at the lube place - they definitely will have the impact.

Agreed.
Less time to do that than go to a junkyard. I used an impact on mine and it works great.
