My understanding of modern day painting techniques is that when done in a professional shop with a heated booth, the paint is pretty well cured and ready for wash/wax and whatever else when it leaves the shop. I think , from my understanding, that's the whole point of heated paint booths....

It will be cured enough to drive after 24 hours. But the paint will still be soft. If you put a soda can on it it will ring it like a cold beer on an oak coffee table.

Cured or not paint isn't gonna stand up to a rock flying towards you at 40 mph while you are traveling 70 towards it.

I still wouldn't put any wax on a fresh paint job for at least a month to let the volatiles bake out.

Now infrared is a different story all together.

When I got mine painted, I drove it home SLOWLY since it was winter, and parked it in the garage and only backed it out when it was sunny to let it bake... :) By spring summer time it was good to go.

I still have chips though, they happened going to Charlotte and Chicago... It's going to happen its just way more of a chance if the paint is still really soft.
