I am taking the car down to bare metal and fiberglass to
repaint (thanks to the damn yellowing the clear coat did)
and wondered who had good "pour & spray" high build primer
to use in my gun. I was looking at them online but honestly
don't know whats best, A little help??

Yeah tell me about it! That dick that sold it to me swore up n down it wouldn't yellow and for two months it didnt, then I was getting the mail and looked at it and was like "Is it dirty??" got closer and realized it was changing to a yellow hue. I was SOOOOOO PISSED!!!

But anyway, I need a primer cuz i'm starting fresh.

go buy more and spray his car and house real quick... then go back and ask for a refund and show your car...

y not just sand the clear off and respray? factory paint jobs have better corrosion protection that you can get at any paint store, unless you already sanded to bare metal the first time lol.

Wicked - I have always sprayed and been completely satisfied with PPG's line of product. Specific to your question on primer, you need to handle this in 2 steps if you are taking it down to bare metal. First, lay down some epoxy primer. Then, after everything is completely sealed, lay down the high build primer/surfacer. Again, I have always had great success with PPG products.

When I sprayed my GTZ last summer I decided to try something new and did not want to spend a lot of money on the project. I used Summit's product line. I have to say that I was surprised by how well their products, primer & paint, performed. Not quite the performance of PPG to be sure, but for the money - no complaints.


One last word of caution and reinforcement. Do not scrimp on the epoxy primer. Spend the money and spray it, even if you use Summit or some other lower cost brand. Do not skip this step. Primer/surfacer and paint will not seal the bare metal surface and will not stop the rust. This is a fact and if you skip this step you will regret it in a lot shorter time than you might believe.

Thanks dhenderz! I kinda wanted to know this too. I'd also heard Woody had success with using Summit materials as his car, I believe, is mostly painted with it.

i've always used ppg's k36 fill primer. never needed bondo and it sands easy. really nice stuff
