I have a 95 beretta with a 2.2 4 cyl. and the 5 speed trans. Last week I was backing out of my driveway and it wouldn't shift out of reverse. It wouldn't go into neutral until I shifted from reverse to second then into neutral. I went into second because first gear is also giving me trouble. When I shift to 1st it grinds and the car jerks forward. If I shift from reverse to 1st when I let off the clutch the engine just bogs down until the car stalls, seems like it's in reverse and 1st at the same time. So I yanked the tranny after I made sure it wasn't the linkages or the shift arm on the trans. causing this. It's internal.  Any one experience this problem? Also I cant find a tranny in a junkyard for it.
I know I am not retarded, but every boneyard I called says I need a transmission out of a 95 Beretta specifically, and not form a different car or differnet year Beretta, it would not work. I know that is B.S. , you mean to tell me that GM made a special transmission for just the Beretta in 1995. We all know that the Beretta, Grand Am, Skylark, and Achieva are the same car. And Cavaliers and Sunfires both run the 2.2L engines with a 5 speed, the trannys should be the same for all these cars unless I just fell off the "short bus" today. Any input would be appreciated as I would like to fix my car and keep driving it.

I'm really not sure on the Isuzu trans, but I would think you could make something work.  The one thing that I wonder about is the motor mount situation, but I'd think you could get around this somehow.
