Was driving into work yesterday. Outside temp about 65F. Stuck at a Traffic light for a few minutes. Temp Gauge goes just over Halfway. Drove about 1/4 mile into work. Coolant gauge stayed where it was. Cooling fan did not run until I turned the AC on. Not having my Snap-On Scanner with me, I belive the ECT by the Thermostat housing is bad. This car ha s a New WaterPump, T-Stat, Belt. Its a 95 Beretta 3.1. The engine didnt appear to overheat.
SO I am going to try changing the sensor.
Let you know what happens.

That's not a problem it's normal especially when stuck in traffic.

I am concerned that in the Summer it will go higher. The Gauge just stayed above Half. I'll check with my scanner. I will be able to read the Gauge and see what the PCM is is reading for the Temp. If its lower, Bad sensor.
This car is funny with Temp readings. When it was first brought over, the Gauge stayed on C. Hit 1/4 when in the NJ Inspection line. Changed the T-Stat and WaterPump(Due to 126,000 Miles) Then it started reading normal.

I did change the ECT by the T-Stat. Since then I have not noticed the Temp gauge goig as high as before. I assume the Fan is running like it should.

I'm having the same problem on my 92 gt 3.1
I have a new radiator, water pump, t-stat, and belt and it will hit above 1/2 in traffic.

What is the ECT?

as long as you dont make it much above 3/4 on the gauge you are fine.

Since I changed the ECT (Sensor by T-Stat) I have not seen it as high. Goes just below, Then drops.
BTW, This Sensor uses 2 wires. Not the 1 wire for the gauge which is in back of the engine.

Coolant Temp Sensor:
Upper engine side, in the rear by the firewall, below water outlet mounted on rear side of intake manifold

Guys, Thats the 1 Wire for the Gauge in the rear. The 2 wire for the Computer is located next to the T-Stat housing.
