It's on top of the firewall, looks like a vent of some kind. Is it missing something? I've been told it's supposed to cool the alternator.http://www.flickr.com/photos/63315008@N ... hotostream
Do all 3100 cars have this? I just wanna know what it is, and if it's missing something.

96 only (as far as berettas go) alternator cooling inlet. Missing hose to alternator.

Whelp, short answer yes.

Long answer, its there for something, as in to keep your alternator cool. So yeah it makes a difference. Your alternator runs cooler.

Other than that, no. lol

It sucks air from the cowl to cool the alternator windings; alternators have been notorious for going out on 3100 cars.

With that said, I had the same alternator for 8 years so...

I did add the cooling duct to my car now though. Better safe than stuck somewhere with a dead alternator.

I added that to my 95 when I did my OBDII swap... I've had the same alternator on that for the longest time and it actually made the trip over to the 96, Still running strong to this day after a few fusible link blows and melting wires... the alternator that came on the 96 ended up in the 95.
