i found a z34 at the junk yard today 3.4 5 speed. apparently these are rare to find a 5 speed. im pretty sure its the 284 getrag in it.

Dont know much about the 3.4 engine but would it be worth getting that trany ? i dont think i can get it very cheap but possibly buy the whole car. never really gave me a price but he said a few people were in looking at it cuz they want the trans for a fiero. i dout it will be very cheap, might be able to buy the whole car for 5 or 600 for the whole car maybe.

It is DEFINITELY the 284. Do yourself and everyone else a favor. BUY THE TRANS. That's like finding gold. VERY rare. Even if you don't want it, you can sell it and make a tidy profit. I'd grab the shifter assembly, flywheel, and cables too.

The 3.4L TDC is no biggie. Pretty easy to find those.

The reverse light surround around the license plate area is also valuable. And the hood/vents. Maybe even the spoiler.

the car i found is complete, i dont even know why it would have ended up there it looks in decent condition the body is near mint from what i seen, the interior isnt bad either. maybe had engine problems or just been sitting for a while the shifter cables are starting to seize up.

but the hood vents are on it still and looks to be complete.

really wish i had the cash id be taring that 5 speed out this weekend

we used to have a fair amount of those z34's around my area over the years... but has seriously dwindled in the last 5... i havent seen more than one. most of them were 5 spds up here, probably a 70-30 split, standard-auto.

most scrapped due to engine troubles... mainly cause people dont due routine maintenance to anything... and the site of that things engine bay sent mechanics cursing...

Yeah, the timing belt is the biggest cause of failure with that engine. People didn't service them every 60K like they were told, and boom went the engine.

Yup, was gonna say, timing belt likely. They weren't known for headgasket failures. I've bought a few with bad timing belts cheap and sold them for a tidy profit. Including a very nice GTP one time.
