A/C line breaks at compressor
This sure has become a chronic problem for me! Quad4, the hose going down to the compressor after a very short period of time cracks right at the point it enters the compressor and eventually shears completely off. So far the repair shop has replaced them, and the last time they blamed a bad motor mount for the cause. It seems to me this line, with a big old inline filter in it (maybe??) is vibrating too much and it just fatigues that joint where the threads are. Does anyone else have this problem? Am I perhaps missing some sort of hold down strap?
This car is driven VERY little, 20 miles in a week would be a busy week. The motor mount and hose were replaced last fall. For this to have failed again so quickly is just wrong.

That's not cool... both my 95 berettas have the 'appear to be stock' lines going to the compressor and both seem to be pretty strong with no signs of aging

If they are aftermarket lines they sometimes not up to the same standards a oem part. could you have a out of ballance compressor ( bearing or clutch face failure)causing it to brake??

I have had this line break before and after the compressor was replaced, so I doubt it directly deals with that.
What I am hearing from another site is that the aftermarket front motor mount could be the blame. It seems there is a cheaper version of the mount for standard Q4s that is used at times.
This makes sense, since that mount was what the shop originally blamed on the breakage of the line. If that mount failed because it was inferior, then the line could have broken again as well.

That's definitely a possibility. The 1990 quad mount (big one up front) was a hydraulic type originally, most aftermarket ones are just solid rubber. One guy at Bfest in Columbus had one break and bought a regular Napa one, if I remember right it pretty much only lasted till he got home from the trip. Of course, that was the guy driving like 2500 miles to the fest
