ok i have 92 chevy beretta GT 3.1 V6 3speed Auto i was driving one day and it didn't wanna shift from 2ed to 3ed and then like 20 sec from that i was pulling over and it just died i hit gas and it does nothing funning thing tho the pedal didn't want to work right before that happen it had a lot of resistance like a LOT is there a chance that a solenoid went out or is my trans just junk a mechanic want $3000 to put in a rebuilt trans in that case idk what I'm gonna do i love this car its the rare blue

2. $3k for a rebuilt trans is ridiculous. I'm sure you can find a junkyard trans.

sorry about the grammar its been a long day any help tho on weather or not it may be a solenoid problem

I doubt a bad solenoid would introduce additional pressure into the gas pedal; sounds like an issue with the kickdown cable. I'm no expert on auto transmissions; the resident expert will chime in sometime soon I'm sure.

Its not the lock up tourq converter It don't stall it just dosnt move kinda like it has a bad pump

I'm gonna second the detent cable (kick down cable) is stuck or some such.

Not being a a-hole but why would you buy a trans from the junk yard to fix/replace one in your car. I'd think the chances are good that one in the yard is dead or dieing and then you right back in the same place. I understand everyone is one trying to make it on a dime these days but seem that you are wasting $$ on an unknown.
I would agree 3k is a bit much.

$3k is a LOT much.

You can get a reman trans for about $1500-$1800.

And I've bought alot of trannies from the salvage yard with good luck.

I'd buy a trans from a junkyard for a few reasons. And they all intertwine together for the same goal: saving money.

Typically a JY trans is cheaper.
I'd rebuild it myself (I know not everyone is capable or willing to do this but I do as much of my own work as possible).
I have 2 cars so it's no big deal to have one down for an extended period of time while I fix it myself to save hundreds, if not thousands.

This is exactly what I do. Hence why I buy cars for 500-750, fix them, then drive them for 100 thousand miles. lol

Geoff's idea is the same route I go. I'll be looking for a 4t65e in the yard this winter so I'll have something to build.

Not to mention most yards offer at least a 30 day exchange warranty on engines/transmissions if you don't know how to rebuild one.

well I don't know how to rebuild one. So I would go with staying with the orig in the car and just rebuilding it. Some things are above my head, a trans rebuild is one. ha ha ha
