Is there any differences between years or models for them? I have a 95 z26 do I need one from another z or can it be from a base. I called car quest and they had listings for 3 or 4 speed.
I just don't wanna put the wrong one in.

Any stick shift beretta will work, the studs to mount it are already there. Neutral switch for the autos is very different but you use the same wires

Needs to be from a 94-95 any model v6. The 96 changed due to OBDII.

Then why did car quest ask 3 - 4 speed when they new my year and model? I thought maybe base 3 speed and z26 4 speed. I dunno? Lol

Because the 93 and older Berettas are 3 speed autos then the 94-96 are 4 speed autos.

The only other thing that can cause the issue is your gear selector being out of wack and not being perfectly in R when your range selector says R inside. They are adjustable for cable wear.
Or the obvious, burnt out bulbs....

So if I move my shifter around around reverse could it possibly turn on? to make sure I have the right fault

Yes, have someone watch your lights as you go from P to N slowly and see if they blink at all, if so then the cable is miss adjusted. Usually when that happens though, you can feel it in the shifter that it doesn't want to stay in the right position and sometimes you will get funky actions from the trans since not only is the cable wrong, but that moves the shift valve into the wrong position.
