hi there im new to the board and am excited to join because theres tons of info on this site, also new to the berettas, i have a 94 beretta with the 3100, did a 5 spd swap on it a few months ago and love it, lots of power and drives perfect, but i just bought a 3800 sc engine out of a 01 bucik park ave, gonna put it in soon but was wondering if anyones done this and how you would splice the engine harness and pcm for the 3800 to the harness on my car, and how to make a camaro flywheel work with the getrag trans.

First off, the ECU will not control that engine, its a boost engine and you have a non boost ECU that you can't even tune. Thats all I'm going to say because I have no input on the complexity of getting the rest to work.

You're probably best off converting the whole harness and ECM to the '01 3800 setup and then tuning with EFI Live.

And you better know how to weld, or someone that does. You will have to fab a few things to be able to physically install that motor. Best bang for your buck would be a 3400/3500 swap. Less headache. But if you aren't afraid of a challenge, go for it.

There were 3-4 completed swaps for 3800's if I remember correctly... One I saw in person at Bfest 2006... Another I saw a dyno vid of and the front motor mount was bending his radiator support, and the last one is Roln GTZ, who used to be active on Bstuff and has since died off... I'm assuming he still has the car and IIRC it took him a year or two to do the swap and has never posted any "performance gains" info regarding the swap such as dyno numbers, or 1/4 mile times. He also went 100% stand alone for the ECU IIRC.

There was another guy on bstuff who just did one recently with a 5spd in his 88-89 GTU. He actually ran 6 individual exhaust pipes and had probably a half dozen Berettas & Camaros. I can't remember his name though. I believe he kept the OBD1 computer.

You can buy custom flywheel and clutch kits by looking at Fiero sites. You will also need to buy a relocation kit for the oil filter in order to run the 5 speed on a 3800SC. If you wanna know what kinda performance gain a supercharged 3800 swapped into a smaller car can do, just read my sig!

Dude's name was Rettax3. He had that car (good Christ it was a cluster

), a turbo 95 Cavi, another Beretta he hacked up the headlights on, a pair of third gen Camaros... the list went on. And he had pics/vids of a Northstar swapped GTU (
that dude's name had "gtu" and "rabbit" in it).
Anyway, he didn't use the Beretta ECU. He used the Bonneville ECU that came with the motor, and used a brace that went over
top of the engine and back to a modded strut bar for one of the front engine mounts. He either skipped the other front engine mount or just bolted it to the stock radiator support.

Diyautotune.com For your ECU issues.
I would love to see this swap happen. Great trans and easy motor to make power out of.

What sucks, is he had uploaded his pics to the site itself, so I have no way to retrieve those, and the wayback machine doesn't have anything but the first page of posts... AH well.
