yup got me another one of those annoying vibrations. when i turn on the a/c at idle i get a harsh vibration. it feels like it is right in front of me on the drivers side and has a plastic flapping sound to it. it weakens a little when i put the car in gear and start moving.

any ideas

Sounds like a loose or bad A/C compressor to me. But that's me. Could be hard to turn the pump, which is causing the engine to shake... The mounts for it could be loose, allowing it to move around, or the pump is simply bad and causing the shake. If it is indeed doing so, it would cause all kinds of things to move around. Though normally I wouldn't think an A/C compressor would cause that much vibration by itself. More willing to bet its hard to turn, making the engine struggle a bit, so it vibrates as a result. It doesn't use vacuum to operate and while it has an electrical load (electromagnet and blower) I can't see the electrical impacting the engine to cause those symptoms.

My money is on a bad pump.

the compressor is only about a month old as i just had it replaced. is the pump part of that system? would i be able to tell just by looking at it?

Have someone start the car or AC when you are in front of the car with the hood up and look around for anything unusual.

I'd bring it back to who put the compressor in before doing ANYTHING else... You paid for a service and it wasn't done right.

Let me ask this question:

What is your idle doing when the vibration starts? Does it dip and stay lower than when the A/C is off?
