Sooo, swapping to a 5sp???

Ok I have seen talk of it here and there on this site but have not paid much attn to it since I don't know if my Indyyellow will be around long. That aside IF I were to hold on to it what is involved parts wise to swap in a 5sp. I would be keeping the 3.1 that is in it, low miles, looks pretty clean and runs well. What is the best/easy to find trans to put in it? What about the clutch pedal? Are these hydraulic clutches? Does the cumputer have to be changed out? Are there any wiring harness issues?? I guess the console shift plate needs to be changed out, how hard will it be to find one?

Seems the car would be more run to drive as a stick.

List of parts you need from a 5spd car (off the top of my head, some are obvious):
Trans (87-91 Beretta's will bolt up just fine, it's best if you swap from another V6 car to get the Getrag)
Flywheel
Clutch
Clutch hydraulics (Slave/master/reservoir can go in as one unit)
Clutch/brake pedal assembly
Shift cables
Shifter assembly
Axles
ALL engine and trans mounts
Driver side subframe
Wiring for reverse light switch
Wiring and switch for clutch safety switch
Center console trim
5spd EPROM (this is in your computer, you don't need to swap the whole computer, just the chip)

I have a guide somewhere at home I can email you; some of it won't pertain to you since you have the mounts already on your car; I had to weld mine on since my car didn't have the right mount.

i was going to say, 88-94 cavy stuff will still be easier to find (aside from base beretta's with the 2.0 or 2.2 and 5spd, but you want the 5spd that came with the v6)
is the subframe totally different from cavy to beretta? i'll take a look on rockauto and other sites for part #'s.

ok on rockauto, i checked 1992 cavy rs, 3.1, and 5 spd parts. and then 1992 beretta gt. suspension control arms are the same from cavy to beretta (88-93), clutch master is different from cavy to beretta, clutch slave is the same though. no info on trans itself, couldnt find tranny mount for the beretta, so likely different, couldnt find shift cables for beretta, so likely different.
i'm sure all this info is in other posts deep within the site... and 60degreev6.com, or jbody.com

cavy trans are the same as well as the shift cables. I know this bc i'm running both in my beretta. I don't think you really need to switch your subframe out either. The only reason I switched mine was to go to the vertical bushing front and rear. I wouldnt think that the clutch hydraulics would be any different either. I mean the cavys and berettas are pretty identical underhood hence why the strut braces swap easily. I even used the upper trans mount from a cavy pre 92. I would use a cavy for the mechanical parts aside from the subframes without thinking twice. I wouldnt try to swap a cavy harness in but I got away with running a 95 auto harness and now a 96 auto harness along with geoff. as long as you know what wires to splice the speed sensor into along with the reverse switch you'll be fine. Oh and you have to bypass the auto trans switch to be able to start it.

and yeah I know that if you want to be "technical" the drivers side subframe has a ledge that the trans is supposed to sit on but even mine doesnt sit on it and I used the subframe from the donor 88 beretta I originally got my trans from. The PS is from a 92 or so because it had the lower engine mount bracket in it that the 3100s use and the 88 didnt have. so my 95 has a 88 DS subframe with a 92 PS subframe but like I said I only changed them for the vertical bushing. Being you have a Indy you should be fine.

Luke, I'm guessing your mounts are as stiff as mine, because mine doesn't touch the "ledge" on the drivers side subframe either. Granted, every mount I have is billet aluminum with poly bushings, and the engine mount has the poly insert...
However, if you are using all stock rubber mounts (new or old ones), I'm pretty sure you'll want that ledge...

I'm confused, what ledge where, anyone have a picture of this?

It's a spot where the rubber bumper on the trans contacts. It might be a 87-91 thing only. Mine doesn't contact it either, since I have all billet/poly mounts as well.

Never seen anything like that on my 3 90-91 Quads & Getrags. Must be a V6 thing then, now I'm afraid that my Isuzu to Getrag swap is not going to work...
