How is this piece secured to the bracket? What would happen if I just removed it? Mine came loose and it is just rattling around now.....

If I'm not mistaken, I have 3 bolts there.

If you removed the bracket then your halfshaft would buckle and smack around. would not advise it at all

I'm talking about the flange thing that goes around the shaft and is attached to the bracket. Mine has separated from the bracket and it sounds like a extremely loose heat shield rattling around under the car.

The smaller round piece that has a dish in it is called a 'slinger' in the parts catelog. I believe it is simply a shield that keeps debris from getting into the bearing. However, the large metal flange that has 3 bolts going thru it is the retainer fo the half shat bearing. Do not remove that part. Doubt you will have much issue removing just the slinger.

Thanks Dennis. Just ordered one along with a new bearing.

As long as the main bracket and retainer are kept, everything else could be removed. I believe the piece your pointing to is pressed on before the bearing, so you may want to make a spacer to take up its space.

Where are you referring to add a spacer Barry?

Yeah I think that in on the shaft before the bearing. So if you take it out, the bearing may be able to "ride" over on the shaft and it could pull out of your trans.

Really you just gotta take a look at and use your best judgement. It was a while ago when I had my jackshaft apart so I dont remember exactly how that all worked.

From the original picture it looks like the engine bracket is broke. I agree, use your best judgement, cars arent really supposed to have rattles in the drivetrain lol

Jack your car up and take a picture of whats actually there and then we can pass further judgement on the situation
