brake applied car dies?!?

Post by thyreaper »

ok my car is a 88 gt 2.8 litre with automatic tranny. I did the intake gasket and upon doing so i broke couple of the vacuum lines that plug into the throttle body... i had to rig my own back but some of the lines i had wernt the same size so i had to wrap electrical tape around the line to make the lines fit into one another... but anyway to my problem.... car idles fine runs fine but when i hit the brake once or twice really fast the car dies it also does it when in gear just idling with foot on brake. I think this is because of the vacuum lines they probably leaking because of me having to rig them to work. It did not do this before. I cannot find the lines anywhere they are discontinued and none are at the junkyard.... any suggestions?

Some auto parts places have the hard tube and some fittings (but not the right ones). You may have to make your own set up. This is why I still have my old worn out 3.1. Tape just won't work. At the junkyard you didn't find any 3100's? Not the same I know, but it's a last hope kinda thing. Also sousa632 has a 90gt for parts. If the 90 stuff won't work tell me and I'll take them.

ok so its not the vacume because i sprayed tb cleaner around and it didnt change the idle..... could it be the idle air control valve/sensor? when car is in gear it also lopes on rpm some and when i rev it the idle drops alittle more then it should and upon starting the rpms come down further then they should then the car automaticly raises the rpms to 1500 then decreases again... is this the idle air control?

The trouble shooting guide at the top of diagnostic help may be of some use. Let me come clean on this, I have the same problem. I have changed every sensor and cleaned out port for the EGR. It is not so bad now, but it's still there. I think my evaporative canister may be bad(the hard line that goes to it broke and I put a soft hose in place of the break). New parts are the IAT,IAC,EGR,TPS,timing chain, crank sensor,PCV and MAP. The fuel pump and intake gaskets went bad, so they are new. The upper intake and TB have been cleaned two times(I have 200K, lots of blow by). Looks like we are going to have to work this out together! My temp sensor is bad, so it gets the work first.
