That was for cars, and then you had one for parts. I think what we need is a global, one post one guideline for doing sale threads. I will be quoting parts, and suggesting thoughts. I may also use quips from another format that Rodville posted too, just for giggles. LOLCAR FOR SALE THREADS
1) DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS - NO EXCEPTIONS:
A. Location of item must be listed in your title. Please post the state or province, country, etc where your vehicle is located.
B. Vehicle Identification Number must be listed in your posting. Please list your vehicle's VIN so it's available for checking against registry reporting systems, i.e., CarFax, AutoCheck, etc. Listing false or fabricated VINs for your vehicle is grounds for banning from the site for fraudulent activity.

D. Post a reasonable price. We are not eBay, nor an auction site, so "make an offer" is not acceptable. Reasonable price means that you have done some research and identified a fair price-point that will actually sell. Requesting "offers" without a reasonable starting point is essentially the same as requesting members to "bid" on your item(s). Listing intentional over-inflated pricing is also NOT allowed and will be subject to closure or infractions.

Member-sellers are required to retain all original post materials, e.g., listing information, photos, price(s), etc., if/when the vehicle is no longer available for sale. 3) POST SALE INFORMATION
Using PayPal. Never use PayPal's "gift" feature to purchase a vehicle on the site. If the only way a seller will "sell" is if the buyer acquiesces and uses the Gift choice, then, this may very well be a scam and buyers are warned. If you use PayPal's Gift feature, and the seller receives the funds, from PayPal's perspective, then you the buyer truly intended this as a "Gift" and PayPal will not attempt to collect from the seller no matter how much you protest. A gift is a gift. However, if you choose to use PayPal's other options to purchase a vehicle, you have a limit of 45 days from the original date of purchase during which you may lodge a dispute and petition for a refund. 60 days from the original date of purchase if paid by a Visa or MasterCard with your bank
Shipping/Handling may be part of the sale. Once a vehicle is sold, the sale is not over. Making sure the item is delivered (or shipped properly and arrives to the intended buyer) is the responsibility of the seller unless other agreements have been reached.
Disputes must be handled privately. If there is a problem or issue, you must first work it out amongst yourselves via PM, email or other communication methods. Do not post in the open forums until you have contacted the OP to first attempt to resolve the issue. Only report poor sales IF you have no success in coming to an agreement.
Poor Seller / Buyer Note. Any member who is a poor seller/buyer and is unwilling to resolve any issues will be placed on a time out or banned depending on the severity of the offense. This will not be a unilateral decision, but will be based on an assessment of the situation by the moderators.
Use Feedback threads. Feedback threads enables other members to review transactions between a potential seller and other members and then determine if they want to do business with that seller.
*For those members who have had a good experience, then post a POSITIVE rating
*If there was an issue and it was resolved, please post a POSITIVE (because it was resolved) or a NEUTRAL rating
*If you have a bad experience with a member, and are unable to resolve the issue, then post a NEGATIVE rating and a short note describing the issue(s).
*In all cases, remember that you need to work it out, do not just immediately post a negative rating.

Why start with what I copied, I want to hear what you all want.
Make a rule set mash it together with everyone else, cover with saran wrap, chill in the fridge for 24hrs and then put it in the oven at 450 and see what you end up with.

Ok, of the original sale rules posting that I have above. Can't be sure if it was altered or not when Jon posted it, but I don't think it was...

To ADD to this! I get annoyed when people post multiple threads for stuff. SO as a further point to that rule, add the following:
If you are selling multiple items, list each item in one sale post. You can keep them all in the one post with spacing, or make separate posts, but use one thread. Don't use 5 threads for 5 items. Be sure to include pics for the items. This would only apply to parts, as vehicles should be kept in a thread by themselves.

Sometimes people send requests via PM rather than in the thread for the same item someone else posted in the thread. The only thing I can point out, is time. Note the times of the posts vs a PM, and see which is earlier. This is how I have handled my items in the past. If someone says they wanted it, I gave them a couple of business days to pay. If they didn't I would offer it to the next person. Pretty simple. We may want to rework that to read a bit differently, like this:
Buyers wanting to claim "dibs" on item(s) must be ready to PAY for the item(s). Up to the seller, but give a potential buyer a time frame of when you expect payment for the item. Sellers should in turn address would-be buyers on a first-come first-serve basis as best as possible. Messages and posts have time/date stamps which can help.

Maybe SGR would care to elaborate the type of scamming that someone is going to do with a VIN number? Rather than going back and editing your first post to now say "SOLD", etc, you can leave your properly formatted sale thread as a record of the sale, in case of future issues. Please note, I take this rule to not include editing things like spelling mistakes, or being able to add to the first post. But you can always add the text "Edit" followed by the date and put your edits below that point as well. I feel we need to set a time frame, or have an expected time frame for resolution of a dispute. For example, we can't say that someone who sold someone an item, and the guy sends him one message then a day later posts a rant. You have to give a seller time to respond. I would say a week would be at MOST a proper time frame. So if someone were to send me a message that what I sold them sucked, I would have a week to respond. I generally am willing to provide any means of communication personally, but not everyone may. We may want to be sure that e-mails and/or phone number contacts be provided, especially with expensive items.Disputes must be handled privately. I get what they are saying here, but I know that in most cases, whoever posts wanting to buy an item first is usually the one that may get the first opportunity.9. DIBS: most users allow the 'dibs' system. If you do not want to tolerate "dibs" then the title or first paragraph must clearly state "NO dibs." If someone calls "dibs" and you sell something behind their back because you just couldn't wait for dibs to expire, you will be banned from sales for a week. 2nd offense = 6 months . 3rd offense = banned from sales forever. Each offense will also get you an increase in your warning level.

I know you didn't write it up yourself, and no one is being down about it on you Jon. I think its great that someone put something up. But as we all know, we are a bunch of fussy people! LOL
All I did was tweak it a bit, maybe it will work better for everyone for now. Lets see what anyone else has to offer....

I'm going to mix up the wording a bit for the "Price" issue. People can put whatever price they want; some people might be willing to pay the asking price, some people won't be. That's up to the people looking to buy. If I had a NOS part that was rare and wanted $500, if someone wants it badly enough for a project they might just pay it. I don't think it's anyones call to ban or warn someone if they think their price is high. Think of it like this; just because one person thinks a price might be high (maybe you don't want it or need it), doesn't mean that price wouldn't be too high for someone else that could actually use that part.
Example:
Mint Light Grey Z26 seats - Full set - Originally asking $200, now asking $150.
I also think that if an item doesn't sell and a member wants to lower their asking price, they should be allowed to alter the original thread, but only if they leave the original price visible.D. Post your price and include OBO (Or Best Offer) or FIRM afterwards depending on if you are willing to be negotiated with. This is not an auction site, so starting a bidding war or "make an offer" is not acceptable. If you are willing to take offers, put a note in the topic for members to PM you with their offers, rather than post them publicly in the thread.

I disagree that there should be a requirement of photo images or digital images. There are many times its a good idea to post images of the item for sale but not a necessity. Photo images are marketing. It is possible to buy and sell an item without a photo.

I would reword the sending money as gift. Not everyone is going to scam you.
I just sold a rear view mirror to another member without a photo and it was sent as gift. I must be a scam artist.

Order an item from Car-part.com or any salvage yard. Ebay and craigslist do not require photoimages. If someone wants to post inventory by description and part number i am for it. Another example is to sell a Garman navigation unit. and using a photo from the Garman site that best represents the item.
