Problem Re-attaching Throttle Valve Cable

I’m new to this forum, but it appears to be the best. I’d appreciate any help you can provide.

I’m just finishing a head gasket job on a 95 Beretta 2.2L and am having difficulty re-attaching the throttle valve cable. I can get it attached, but only with the throttle wide open and it won’t close once the cable is attached.

The throttle cable itself attaches fine and appears to work appropriately. Bracket is not bent. I’m sure of the cable locations as they have unique connectors to the bracket as well as unique sizes of ends for attaching to the pulleys on the throttle assembly. Where could I have gone wrong and what can I do to correct this?

I’m not familiar with transmissions and don’t want to blindly detach the other end from the tranny. There seems to be a lot of posts for help on head gaskets, but I haven’t encountered a solution to this one.

Again, any help is greatly appreciated.

The only thing I can come up with is that the cable is hung up near(or on) the pedal bar.

Just to clarify...is this the cable that goes to the trans??? Depending on how your car is outfitted, there can be up to three cables attached to the TB...

I have two cables. One going to the pedal which attaches and operates fine. The second is shorter and goes to the transmission. This one to the tranny acts like it is too short or hung up within the tranny. It moves fine and I can hear it moving inside the tranny, but I cannot get enough length out of it to attach to the Throttle assembly without locking the throttle wide open.

Did you put them on the right spots on the throttle body?

the cable that goes to the trans is adjustable but before you do this make sure it is routed correctly

OK, I feel a little stupid now. I didn't see the second attachment point on the same pulley the throttle cable attaches to. They go on the same pulley and the other pulley must be for that 3rd cable I don't have.

Thanks for all those inspirations. I guess I'm a little like those Steelers - "old and slow, but still gettin it done". Hopefully I'll be able to fire her up tomorrow.

I found the cable actually attached to the same pulley at the throttle body as the throttle cable did. I hadn't seen the connection at the bottom of that pulley. The second pulley I was assuming it attached to was extrainous for the cable I don't have, apparently.

Anyway, I fired her up yesterday and runs fine. No overheat, no apparrant leaks, etc.

Thanks for all your help and inspirations.
