I have an 88 beretta with a 2.8 and a 5speed. I have eibach springs with the z51 suspension. I'm just trying to decide if I should go with a remote mount turbo on the 2.8 for now, and later upgrade to a bigger 60* and bigger turbo; or a 97 3800 gtp engine. I have a wrecked gtp at home that I don't have time to fix, and thought about pulling it apart to part the car out. I'm just a little concerned with putting a 140k 3800 in my car. Also, for those of you that have done the 3800 swap- how involved was it and what are you running for a computer and tune? What do you all suggest?

I would just swap in a 3400. Definatly the easiest and best bang for the buck.

I think after reading into it, I will stick with a 60*. Nobody makes it sound like that great of a swap from what I've read. What kind of #'s are people getting with the 3800 supercharged in a 1/4?

Then you better read some more.
The 3400 IS 60* and has been done dozens of times.

The 3800 swap is a PITA and even the guy who has the most noteworthy one insists if he had it to do over again, he wouldn't!
But then what do I know?
I went with a 3500.

I wrote the same thing you just stated... but, I have been trying to find more on the 3500 or even a 3900 swap possibility.

There's only one known 3500 and no 3900s yet. The easiest swap is definitely the 3400 and you can get some decent #s out of it. You can score a super low mileage engine for cheap and there's already basically step by step instructions on how to swap it in. Plus you have a 5 speed which would make for a pretty fun car.

Putting a 3.8sc in your car you would need to be a good fab guy and really good with cars. When I started mine when i was 16(now 24) I alway cross something on the car in where I was like what the heck was i thinking. stick with a 3400. Or if you are really good with cars try something new maybe a 3900 or 3500. I also thought about grabing a beretta out of a junk yard and finding me a 5.3 and tranny out of gp,mc, or impala. but thats a project for someone else or for later down the road.
