Seat track mount repair? any experiences?

any repair ideas for seat track mounts? my drivers-side console-side back end is wrecked i think... i still have to look deeper into it, but there is rust, and i think the metal mount (at the console area) is torn out...

i'm suspecting i will be cutting the carpet a bit to open up the area, and then welding/fabbing something from there.

Find a bif of sheet metal, drill an appropriately sized hole. Get a weld nut, or another appropriate nut, and weld it carefully to the back side of the piece of metal.

Simple enough, then weld the bit of metal carefully to the crap storm of crap that is the console hump.

I highly recommend removing the seats and carpet, and using a tig welder, as well as possessing some skill at tig welding. If you try to use a MIG gun or an arc welder, and you don't remove the seats, you'll have a fire or burn holes from the splatter. The metal in that area is very thin, IIRC its like 18g, so its prone to break in that area.

Or you can cheap out and use JB weld. But if your a fat ass you'll just break it again like me.

Chad hit the nail on the head.

That area is already prone to rust, and its thin as hell to start. I cut all the rusty crap out and started fresh. I think I also gusseted it to the floor pan too to save my 180lb ass.

thanks guys, i figured that would be it... yeah i dont know TIG (nor have one), but i'll make a shield for around the area that i weld when i get to it... yeah i was thinking bracing it to the floor as well might be a good idea.

Keep your heat low. The reason I suggested TIG was burn through. With a bit of skill you can get a good burn then puddle up and make a strong weld on that rusty crap. You'll probably just bird crap all over it or melt through with a MIG gun, if you can even arc it depending on the amount of rust you've got.
