I'm looking into picnic locations and have one question for everyone:
How far are you willing to drive for a good location?
I ask because we're trying to do something on the lake, and there are very few places large enough for us. The other problems are that a covered shelter is very rare, and it's hard to find somewhere that can be reserved. There is one place that can do all these things, but it's 30 miles (about an hour drive) from the hotel. The shelter is currently available, there's ample parking, grilles, power, water, outhouses, and it's on the beach. There is a daily permit required for entry, which is normal for us, based on past years.
The other option is to hope the weather holds out and get a place without a shelter. In this case there are a few good options in 10 minutes of the hotel.
I'm going to check out a few places in person, but I want to gauge what the limits are before I go wandering off too far.

Driving an hour doesn't bother me, especially around that area.

It's also a very nice drive along the lakeshore to get there. I've been to this place before, and I think it's worth the drive.

Hour drive doesn't bother me either...
But having a little one due at end of July I seriously doubt that I will be able to make it next year

Then why are you interjecting your opinion? Sheesh!
I would say an hour should be the top drive time one way.

I'm having Kyle help in pinning down a place, as my time this week (well this month) has been limited. A few places I looked into were either not quite what I was hoping for, or didn't have the facilities we need. All I wanted was a place with access to a sandy beach, a place to have the food cooked, restrooms, room for our cars and a shelter of some sort just in case of bad weather. Not to much to ask right? lol
He knows the area around TC better than I do. As for the distance, its not too bad, but we hope to find a place closer that can work well for us too. And yes, getting to cruise with a line of beretta's is always fun!

I have enjoyed doing that the last two fests!
No specific name or location will be publicly posted. But how you all feel about distance and stuff helps us determine a suitable location more quickly. So don't be afraid to speak up. Its for all of us!

My thoughts too. The drive to the picnic in Indy was a hair too long, but I liked the somewhat scenic route/adventure along the way.

I hope your kidding about the ride to Indy's Picnic location... since it was like 5min from the hotel.
Navigating the park was a bit tricky I'll agree.

He's talking about the "scenic" route we took to get there... stupid GPS... lol

I'm down for an hour drive up in da UP dar hey! It will be WAY easier than to navigate there then it was in Chicago during BFEST 2010, that sucked! Cruising where the only traffic is more Beretta's is acceptable for ANY driving distance IMO!

Too many people rely on a GPS these days... so far that has resulted in two screwups... a large group missed out on the dragway in Niagara, and now you guys took a long scenic route to the Picnic for Indy...
Look at the MAPS in the packet! LOL

Meh, it was fun. I didn't really mind being one of the last to park at the car show; we would have been able to get there in a decent time if the road going into the park wasn't closed.
I think I need a better navigator... lol
