i remember over the summer during my rebuild that the chassis ground wire was shot, and i never put a new one on, and ever since then my tach has been out of wack. Not sure if it was a coincidence or not.. any ideas?

two common things to check. GM uses a white wire by habit for your tach signal. I just remember this when making my wire harness. inspect this white wire coming out of your coil pack[s] in your engine compartment. its hot out there and if moisture gets in, it will disrupt it and you may see an irritating flicking tach needle.

second, the last time I took out my instrument cluster it didn't seat properly on that one stupid tach wire and I have a bouncy tach. so, check this easy simple fact because it most often is simple.

your ground strap in my guess, won't give you what your seeing with your tach.

if it gets really hard to find, resort to the ohm meter at both ends of that wire, from coil pack to dash cluster, and wiggle check until you find it.
