a 3.8 block with 2.8 heads ? that sounds very odd. maybe a 3.1 or 3400

There was a turbo kit made years ago for 1988 only. A member has one.

You need to figure out what your car has in it.

Could have been the older 3.8. I was thinking from like an earlier olds or something. I had an 85 Olds 98 that had a 3.8L in it. Ugly motor though. Though why anyone would build an engine with a 3.8 and a 2.8 top end sounds kinda pointless, not to mention problematic..... *shrug

Hopefully its not quite that far out of the park or maybe mistaken info or something. Doesn't add up.

Still, as for a turbo... hmmmmmmm Personally many of the people that have built up their engines, have simply gone bigger with 3400/3500 engines, with better breathing abilities more so than throw turbo's at them. There are a few people that have, and others that have gone NOS, etc. Best that anyone has really done as for true drag times in a FWD design so far (that we all know of) are running in the 12 sec brackets. And that's with a non-turbo engine running NOS and built to run NOS properly. I don't know of as many as some of the others however. I do know of a few supercharged 3800 series II builds that have been done, but as for performance numbers from those builds I have yet to hear specifics, but I may have missed them. But I don't recall faster times than non-turbo engine builds. So... eh?

Depends on your budget, build skill set, and determination. haha

There are some rear wheel build versions that have been done more on a drag pro style that are running way faster times. But not many.

Uh, a 2.8 topend won't bolt up to a 3.8 block...

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I found a Talon (think its a TSI) for 500 bucks with no title, could the turbo (fairly sure it could, just not sure how hard to fabricate) (if its a TSI) be used for my 2.8? I know my ECU would need tuned for it and I'd need to fabricate alot and change my tranny. Would it be easier to just use a Grand Prix/Am turbo

Also, someone in this thread (don't feel like scrolling up) said that they made a turbo kit for our cars?

Ontopic: I'm guessing you were lied to about the 3.8, post pics of the engine? Also if its a 3 speed it probably won't hold up too long turbo'd

if you can find one... a 89/90 grand prix TGP was a 3.1 L turbo.. the manifolds and cross over pipe will all bolt onto 2.8 3.1 heads probably even the 3100/3400. then you need to fabricate a down pipe, move some engine mounts and upgrade to 91+ mounts because the older ones have a large upper mount on the driver side right where the turbo would sit.

You could fabricate you own cross over pipe or modify an existing one and put a t3/t4 flange on it and buy a ebay turbo. the grand prix used a T25 and was a very small turbo for these engines.. spooled fast probably give you good bottom end power.

The Grand Pix TGP was only built in 89/90 and i think only 7500 of them were produced..

I have seen people custom make the cross over pipe and put the turbo where the battery is and leave the old style mount, depends how creative you want to get with it.

Yellow top 5.0 L injectors are what you want to find for a turbo application. and have to get a tuned chip from Wot-tech or find someone that can program the prom.

I had found an complete 3.1 turbo factory engine, i had big plans to put that in my 88. i gave a deposit for the engine and couldnt come up with the rest of the funds or find a way to pick it up, it was in Chicago. I am in Canada.. he may still have it or other parts needed to do a swap. i found him on another forum tgpforums or something like that.. if you go on there and ask around you will find some parts for sure..

How has nobody posted a link to 60* yet?

OP, sign up here: http://60degreev6.com/forum/forum.php

That forum will cover the 2.8 (your top end), 3.1 (what you probably have for a bottom end), the 3400 and 3500 (newer motors that will transplant into the Beretta with minimal work), and all the misc performance modifications that goes along with those engines.

Damn there is a TGP at a junkyard near me, If it still has the turbo I wonder how much they'd want for it.

How much boost would be okay on stock internals?

ok talked to the previous owner today and he said that it was a 3.1 block....my bad lol like i said earlier i dont know much if anything about domestics....going to the junkyard tomorrow so wish me luck....needs a new hood! btw what body parts fit on the 88 from other berettas? i see alot better body styles on the other berettas. the 88 body style just looks crappy as hell. As for my plans for the car...i plan on doing a turbo upgrade as suggested b4....and also replacing the dash along with some other parts...seats, harness's, harness bar or roll bar btw i happened across the ad on craigslist that i found to purchase the car, but for some reason when i try to post the link it thinks im spamming or something? l got it for 900 and he showed receipts for all work.....so did i get a good deal? and i dont mind a lil thread jacking....its not like im in the middle of a swap write up or anything. besides ill take all the info i can get on these things
