282 and NVG are interchangable for the most part. Any 282 or NVG will fit pre 92 berettas. Only certain NVG will fit 92/93 beretta. Internally they are different. It is unsure weather all parts swap over or not. Weba from finland is going to swap getrag internals into a NVG case to use newer style mounts. We will see if it is possible then. It comes in the gm metric pattern (2.2 OHV, 2.8/3.1/3.4/ every other 60v6) and also the quad/2.4 pattern. The getrag generally has an external slave while the NVG has an internal. Its possible that 92 quad getrag got internal.

The 284 is a stronger version of the 282. Only came behind the 3.4 DOHC but will bolt to a beretta engine. Its supposedly stronger, but thats only a rumor. I havent seen any testing done.

The 282/nvg is a notchy beast. It seems to hold up to incredible abuse once its in geat, but a bad shift on a high power car/high traction situation could bend forks and jam gears.

The weakest part of the 282 is the diff. However, the NVG diff is much tougher and is a direct swap I beleive.
